Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private campsites in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our 100 acres was originally a CCC camp, then a boys’ juvenile detention center and Big Brothers’/Big Sisters’ camp. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil’s Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail. We've decided to keep the cabin open for the winter months (Dec. through March) but the bath house will not be open unless we have unseasonably warm temperatures. There will be outhouses for your use and we can provide drinking water if you need it.Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge Cabin 1 has a very large lot which could accommodate additional tents for an additional fee. The cabin has no electric so bring lanterns and flashlights. If you need water you will have to go to the pavilion, which is a short walk or drive away. If you're not out seeing the nearby sites, you're going to want to spend your time relaxing on the front porch.  You'll need to bring your own sleeping bag, sheets and pillows.  Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the '30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. You're welcome to explore the property and get a feel for the history of the place. We'd like to share the camp with others and see it come back to life. Within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devils Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there's something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do.

Thunder BRidge Cabin 1
This was a wonderful place for a quiet, primitive camping trip. We spent 3 nights in a cozy log cabin with a fireplace and a wood stove. There was a little trail behind the cabin to a creek that the kids enjoyed exploring. The cabin has horse shoes and badminton and some other fun little surprises. The bath house was clean and the kids enjoyed playing ping pong at the pavilion. Adam was very helpful and the whole place was wonderful.

Loved Thunder Bridge campground!!
We really enjoyed Thunder Bridge! We stayed in cabin 1. It was clean and had a lot of room. Plenty of cots and seating. The indoor wood stove was awesome at heating us during the cold nights. We loved sitting around the fire pit. The bathrooms were clean. 3 shower and bathroom stalls. A little snug with more than 3 people but we never had a problem. 5 minutes from Natural Bridge State Park. We would absolutely recommend this campground to others!

Cabin of dreams!
A beautiful spot with great amenities for basic camping! The cabin is spacious and clean! A handy fire pit area and yard for activities. There is a creek just a short walk away with very clear water. The outhouses are impeccable and very convenient. Adam was a wonderful host and gave very helpful directions for finding the place since service can be spotty before linking to WiFi.

Perfect spot to disconnect for the weekend. Very large lot and room to run around and explore. Great find! Bathhouse was a bonus to have as well. Check in went smoothly and we got settled in with zero issues.
