Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space. Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. We'd like to share the camp with others and see it come back to life. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky.

RV Site 1
We really enjoyed staying on Adam site. He not only provided detailed instructions and videos on how to find the right site locations he met us upon arrival to answer any questions. It’s a beautiful narrow valley between hills at the edge of the National Forest. The sites were spacious with our site under a cluster of trees.

Great place
Great location to many activities. The screens were in great shape. I suggest bringing extra padding to sleep on, the mattresses are on the hard side. We love how spread out the sites are and that we aren't on top of other campers. The host is very responsive. Buy the campfire wood when you book, it's the best deal.

Loved it!
What a lovely site! We had a little trouble with the signs getting in at dark, despite the hosts really wonderful map and video directions but when we settled in it was amazing. Spacious with a little creek within walking distance. We would definitely go back.

RV Site 2
Great spot with water, power and fire pit with plenty of parking. The dump station is close and the entire RV section is easy to navigate even with a larger rig.

It was a great spot close to natural bridge. Adam was a great host and was quick to answer any questions and accommodate my requests. Definitely recommend if you are in the blue ridge.

Site 11 (aka Bear 1)
5 stars
This place is great! We stayed at Site 11 and it was spacious, private, only about 30 yards from the field where there is wifi and views of the mountains. There is a creek that runs behind the campground that we found a little pool to cool off in. Plenty of outhouses. Overall it was a great experience and would definitely recommend to anyone looking to stay in the area!
