Enjoy the comforts of home—including flush toilets, showers, and a kitchen.
We took notes from "the happiest people on earth" and created the ideal hygge experience for the closest of friends and family to share. Hygge (pronounced hoo-ga) is a Danish term that refers to a state of being perfectly relaxed, calm and cozy. It embodies the feeling of warmth, comfort, safety and a sense of belonging. The space Surrounded by state park and bordered by a mountain and running river, The Hygge House is the ideal place to unplug, engage your senses, and reconnect with what’s important. Just across the street you'll find the entrance to the James River Wildlife Management boat put-in and fishing area. Meanwhile, snuggle up on the couch in front of the fireplace, grab a hot drink and a good book, or pull out a board game and enjoy some friendly competition over a bowl of popcorn. It’s up to you how you hygge, but know there’s a plush bed and pillow that await you at the end of your day. This comfort-indulgent getaway wouldn’t be complete without a hot tub on the large back deck, mountain view, or the natural ambiance of a nearby river. If you’re in need of the delightful crackle and cozy glow of a burning flame, outdoor seating by the fire pit is an option as well. We know you’ll enjoy your time at The Hygge House. Booking won’t be a matter of “if,” it’s just a matter of when. Happy Hygge!
