We offer a unique elevated off-grid glamping experience for those seeking a private, peaceful, and comfortable retreat surrounded by nature. You will enjoy secluded luxury glamping in the beautiful Blue Ridge Highlands forest of Southwest Virginia. Located in the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, just minutes from the Appalachian Trail, Grayson Highlands State Park (where you will find herds of wild ponies), Whitetop Mnt, Mount Rogers & and the Virginia Creeper Trail.Upon arrival, you will enjoy a spacious four-season canvas tent in a beautiful private setting surrounded by nature. The outdoor space includes an attached porch with cozy deck chairs, an adjacent firepit with a seating area, and a picnic table. The tent interior includes a queen bed, comfortable linens, extra blankets, nightstands, lanterns, towels, a kitchenette with a stainless steel water dispenser, a ceramic sink, a 14-gallon cooler, and a dining table. A private outdoor hot shower and restroom are located next to the space. The space is the only campsite on the property and is very private. It is a short walk (250 ft) from the parking area and far enough away from the host's house that you will have complete privacy. In addition, we provide a propane cooktop (with fuel), an over-fire cooking grate, pots and pans, cooking tools, dishes, potable water, lighters, cleaning supplies, several games, and reading materials. There is complimentary coffee, tea, cream, and sugar and one complimentary smores kit. A tabletop BearVault is provided for the safekeeping of all provided food. * WIFI* There is no wifi or electricity in the glamping tent or campsite. However, you can access wifi from the parking area and there is a portable battery pack in the tent to charge devices. * Helpful Information* - Our driveway is a bit hidden and can be easily overlooked. Please keep an eye out for our mailbox. Our address and last name is marked on both sides of the mailbox. You will receive detailed directions before you arrive. - If arriving after dark, please be prepared with a flashlight or headlamp. The forest can be very dark. Please let us know if you will be arriving after dark and we will happily assist you if we're available. - * FIREWOOD* Please plan to bring firewood with you. You are welcome to use what we have available but you may find purchased firewood a better option. Thank you - We are in a wonderful rural wilderness area. The closest small town with a grocery store is 16 miles away. There is a convenience store 3.2 miles away but the hours are limited. If you need camping supplies such as food or ice, you may want to plan accordingly. - For your safety and comfort, please read this entire listing (including the bear safety section), the policies, and the rules before booking. - * Air Conditioning* Due to the weather at our higher elevation, the temperature is typically comfortable and air conditioning is not necessary. The Summer High temperature is typically in the mid-70s and may vary from the 50s to 60s in the evening and night. - *Weather* Please be prepared for a variety of weather conditions. We recommend bringing a rain jacket and options to keep warm in the evenings. To check the weather forecast in our area please search weather in Whitetop VA. - Drive Slowly and Carefully Especially at Night I recommend being extra cautious while driving. There is A LOT of wildlife in the area and they will randomly cross the roads without warning. Keep in mind deer typically travel in pairs or herds. If you see one deer cross another will soon follow. I've had bears, bobcats, turkeys, and more deer than I can count run out in front of me. Thanks to slow driving, I've been lucky that all encounters have ended safely for everyone. Please be respectful while driving in the forest. - Our Pets We do have pets on the property. We have several friendly cats and a flock of free-range chickens including a rooster. Please drive slowly and be aware of the cats and chickens when driving on the property. BE BEAR AWARE * THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT* Keeping bears away from you, your tent, and your campsite: - Do not store food, garbage, or toiletries in your tent or near your campsite. - Keep your campsite clean. - Store your food safely. Use bear-resistant containers. Metal ammunition cans and Bear Canisters are easily packed and transported. - Keep the tent and sleeping linens free of all food smells. - Store the clothes you wore while cooking or eating with your food away from where you are sleeping like in your car. - Burn all grease off grills and camp stoves. - Wipe tables and clean eating areas thoroughly. - Store food and coolers at least 200 feet away from the campsite in your locked vehicle. - Dispose of garbage properly. Pack it out daily. Hosts will empty the main trash receptacle daily. Make sure trash is removed from the campsite before leaving or sleeping. - Do not burn garbage. - Store toiletries with your food in your closed and locked automobile; the smell of toiletries may attract bears. Scents like toothpaste and deodorant and the use of perfume or cologne are sometimes an attractant to bears. - Lock vehicles; don’t leave windows open even a crack. Double bag items, use containers and keep items out of site. - Hosts are not responsible for bear encounters or automobile damage. A BEAR OUTSIDE YOUR TENT: If you hear a bear or other animal outside your tent make sure it is aware that there is a human inside by using a firm monotone voice to scare it away. Turn on a flashlight or lantern. IF YOU ENCOUNTER A BEAR WHILE HIKING: Hiking at dawn or dusk may increase your chances of meeting a bear. Use extra caution in places where hearing or visibility is limited, such as brushy areas, near streams, where trails round a bend, and on windy days. Reduce your chances of surprising a bear on the trail by making noise, talking, or singing. Make sure children are close to you or within your sight at all times. Leave No Trash or Food Scraps Double bag your food when hiking and pack out all food and trash. Leaving scraps, wrappers, or even “harmless” items like apple cores teaches bears to associate trails and campsites with food. Don’t burn food scraps or trash in your fire ring or grill. IF YOU ENCOUNTER A BEAR Black bears are seldom aggressive and attacks are rare. If you see a bear before it notices you: stand still, don’t approach it, and move quietly in the opposite direction. If you encounter a bear that’s aware of you: don’t run; running may trigger a chase response. Back away slowly in the opposite direction and wait for the bear to leave. BEAR Safety Guidelines are from the Virginia Department of Wildlife Management LIABILITY WAIVER. Lost Forest Wilderness Retreat
This is just perfect...
This property is in the perfect location to a lot of the higher elevation trails and destination overlooks in the area. I didn't realize how perfect a location it was in until I got there. The tent is a really nice, weather proof wall tent with screened windows that can completely close and a screened front door that can be buttoned up as well. But why would you want to? There isn't anything but trees around to peek in on you. Everything here is as described. Very attentive but not intrusive owners. Courtney really cares about the quality of the product she puts out. Thick towels, coffee, nice gas stove, kindling to start a fire, firewood, two chairs by the fire and two in the tent, which is the size of a small hotel room. The in-the-tent "kitchen area" has everything you need. The sink was great for quick hand washing. What more needs to be said? This is my kind of place and I just couldn't thank my handler enough for finding it and reserving it. THANK-YOU COURTNEY! Nice job on the set up. I hope you do well with this. It's clear that you worked hard on the vision and thought of everything. Once word gets out, you're going to fill up. Hopefully, I'll be one of the people fighting for a spot in your little slice up there on the hill.
