Woodland Retreat is A LARGE GROUP, PET FRIENDLY private camp site suited to those who want to get away from it all, and camp with ‘easy to access ‘real bush’ beside a billabong in the shade of a Coolabah tree. The property is less than an hour from the Grampians and nearby historic towns, wineries and gold diggings. Woodland Retreat provides a safe place to retreat from city life and cool off after a day exploring. Enjoy day trips, onsite bushwalking, fishing, swimming, paddle boarding, and mountain views of the Pyrenees with your friends and family with no other campers to worry about! Just you and yours! Our camp site is in a secluded open forest adjacent to seasonal stream that has been dammed to make a billabong.  Feel free to explore forest, seasonal stream, gullies and open fields, with views of the Pyrenees and farms, but please avoid private area with sheds in the eastern corner. You are likely to encounter kangaroos, shingleback lizards, a myriad of birds and if your lucky a large lace monitor. There is a good spot to eat in town at the Landsborough Hotel and Summerfield Winery in Avoca is also a popular spot to eat, not to mention visiting nearby towns like Ararat or Stawell. Landsborough was a historic gold rush area, and maps can be searched for and purchased online if you are interested in fossicking. Access the site from the bitumen road then make your way along the dirt track to the right towards the centre of the property where the dam/billabong is located. Turn left and set up under the trees.

Billabong Camp
We stayed at woodland retreat for a wonderful and very peaceful four nights in November with 10 people in a mixture of off road vans, a camper trailer and swags, with plenty of room to spread out comfortably, albeit the site has a small slope to consider. Having the whole site to ourselves was fantastic, as was the amount of firewood around the property, and the clean porta-loo. Around the billabong camp site, we were fortunate to see an echidna, some shingle-back lizards, and on our walks around the property, heaps of kangaroos. The dogs had a great time being off lead, and swimming in the billabong. Peter and Jocelyn are very responsive to questions, and provided great instructions for getting there, as well as other useful info for the local area.

We loved the billabong and how quiet Peter and Jocelyn’s beautiful spot is. We enjoyed relaxing by the campfire and made some great memories. Would recommend to anyone looking to get away.

Billabong Camp
Best Hipcamp spot! Very private, peaceful & relaxing place to unwind, recharge & explore. Birds, kangaroos, blue tounge & frill neck lizards kept us well entertained. Loads of hiking tracks around & great local pub. Also a lovely post office open 5 days a week for a few hours a day. Peter & Jocelyn were great hosts. Will definitely return! 5/5 ⭐️

Lovely private campsite in the bush
We absolutely loved our stay at Peter and Jocelyn’s bushland campsite! Only about 50 minutes from Halls Gap and it was so nice having the campsite to ourselves! It’s dog friendly and the fire pit was set up and ready to go (also so much wood to collect which saved us a fair bit of money - that was so helpful!) There was plenty of space for our group to spread out and set up camp and we all had a really lovely time. We hope to be back soon ☺️
