Hike or bike 2 miles into a completely secluded cabin on 600 acres with panoramic views of the Green Mountains. You’ll arrive to a cozy cabin that can comfortably sleep 2, or up to 4 if needed, equipped with a potbelly stove and basic cooking equipment. The mountain, once a source of wood for the Stanley Tool factory and a site for bridle trails in the summer and Nordic skiing in the winter, is now best known as a the birthplace of the Spartan Race and host of the infamous Death Races, as well being a popular mountain biking destination called the Green Mountain Trails. The trail system boasts 25 miles of flowy trails for all abilities as well as a stone staircase climbing from the base to the top of the trails at Shrek’s Stone Hut. Awake to an incredible sunrise and panoramic Green Mountain views after a night underneath a starry dome unblemished by city lights. Chilly evenings in the hut are easily tempered by a pot belly stove fed by seasoned wood. A built in bunk accommodates two people, but it’s possible to sleep up to four guests.Awake to an incredible sunrise and panoramic Green Mountain views after a night underneath a starry dome unblemished by city lights. Shrek’s Mountaintop Stone Hut
10/10!!
We stayed here for one night on a road trip stop and the second we got there we said that we should have booked it to stay for a week. Such a charming little cabin, and Matt provides basically everything you need. Really is a special little spot, and we will definitely plan to come back with our mountain bikes!

Shrek’s Mountaintop Stone Hut
This was our 5th year to visit Shrek's hut in the fall and it always proves to be a very special place to visit. From the hike up, to the first site of the view, to the cozy hut, to making a fire to warm our bodies and food up with, it is one of the most special places for me in Vermont and I was glad to share the experience with two friends who had not yet visited this year. We look forward to our next visit next fall.

What an experience!
What an experience! This place is the most secluded I’ve ever been, and it was amazing. Loved the hike up and down and all the other trails that can be explored there. We were fortunate to get to see a beautiful sunrise and sunset…but being in total darkness and seeing the stars was insane!!!! The stove kept us PLENTY warm on the cold nights, so much so, we opted to skip out on using it the last night because we were sweating. The hut has all the amenities you would need to cook on the stove or over the fire. All you need is coffee grounds and cup a noodles! lol The padded mattresses to lie on were perfect. Thank you for the feature. We just brought our sleeping bags to cover up with. What else is there to say? This place is a gem. Thank you for allowing us to enjoy it!

Shrek’s Mountaintop Stone Hut
Super beautiful peaceful surroundings and a great view. The cabin is really comfortable and I would definitely recommend it for fall- was easy to stay cozy in there. If you’re there on a weekend expect a fair amount of visitors in the morning/midday! Hope to come back sometime soon :)

Shrek’s Mountaintop Stone Hut
This place truly is straight out of a fairy tale. We were all in awe with all it's beauty, simplicity and charm. Waking up with the sight of fog embracing the mountains was magical and the best way to start our day, along with coffee, of course. We created unforgettable memories here and will definitely come back.
