It's lambing time!!! This is the best time of year to visit us, as maximum cuteness is running around just a short walk across the suspension bridge from where you will be staying! We currently have 11 newborn lambs all less than two weeks old (two new arrivals today!) and two ewes are still waiting to deliver. Who knows...maybe they will wait til you get here! Our farm was named after the summer home of Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg. Trollhaugen Farm means Troll hill, but the only real trolls around these parts are the sheep. Our farm has sheep, pigs, chickens and ducks that you are welcome to visit. The yurt sits under the trees next to a babbling brook. A suspension bridge connects you to the farm area. The yurt is private and has a fire pit right out back where you can grill or just sit and enjoy the fire. The colorful yurt offers a comfy four poster bed, a small kitchen area and a bathroom with shower and composting toilet. This is a great place for children, bikers, swimmers, hikers or anyone who just wants to get away from it all for a few days. There are many lovely hikes, one of which takes you to a pond you can swim in. You can also hike up in the woods behind the yurt. Newfane village is one of the most picturesque villages in Vermont, with a courthouse on the green. There are two restaurants in Newfane, two coffee shops, a flea market on Sundays, and a great antique store. We are close to Brattleboro, home to one of the best coops in the northeast, as well as many fun stores and an art museum. Please come visit us!Bring no sleeping bags; pack no coolers, this yurt has everything you need for easy glamping. You will sleep in a four poster bed and awaken to birdsong. Glamourous camping, nestled in a shady spot near babbling brooks, on a working farm. Cross the hanging bridge to visit the farm animals. Hike the trails, swim in the brook, walk the beautiful dirt roads around us. Please be aware there is no electricity.

Okay, but there are better!
The camp didn't meet the expectations we had based on what we saw on the website. We found out there was no electric until the day before our trip. An air of "once was" surrounds the property. It was once an active place, well kept, but now the trails are poorly marked and overgrown, the amenities are cobbled together and malfunctioned - for instance, my husband was expected to unattach propane tanks and hook up new ones. The hot water for the shower didn't turn on at all one night, and the host asked us if we really needed to take a shower! Everywhere we visited and ate during our visit touring Vermont was polite and happy to converse with us, except at Trollhaugen! The yurt was dry and clean, but worn around the edges, for example, the tablecloth was stained and torn, the furnishings faded and worn. We do not recommend this to anyone who is mobility challenged or who doesn't like crossing footbridges, because it took effort to unpack our vehicle, cross a footbridge with no railings in the rain, trying to get footing on slippery, wet leaves, and climbing steep steps with no railing to enter the yurt. That is, after the host gave us directions to the yurt, and only then reluctantly led the way at our request. We never would have found it on our own in the dark, in the rain. This was an okay place to stay, but there are way better ones available in Vermont that are worth the money!

Trollhaugen Farm, with farm events!
Frustrating and difficult
Yurt was "double booked" with another group, they booked the days before and after us this was not communicated to us until we were literally on site, so we couldn't check in until the were asked to vacate our booking and the host could clean it. This prevented us from checking in until well after the standard time leaving our hot dinner and our cold drinks to warm/cool while we waited. The trials were poorly maintained at best and after all of this we were asked to try to leave on time so the first group could come back into the yurt. Overall poor management and poor accommodations. Will not be returning, also no baby goats to be seen.

Trollhaugen Farm, with farm events!
We had a great time forest bathing at this cool camping spot. It was amazing hanging out in the hammock while listening to the babbling stream and listening to it while laying in the comfortable bed inside the yurt at night. The bridge to get to the farm and see the animals was super cool too. I would totally recommend checking out this unique spot! Thank you for sharing your property with us Johanna.

Like playing house in the woods!
We were very lucky to find an open booking at the yurt last minute while we were tent camping and trying to avoid a big storm. My three kids and I arrived late at night to the cozy yurt with fresh flowers and farm eggs. I hadn’t anticipated no electricity because I booked in a hurry but we were already well equipped w lanterns and headlamps from our own trip. It made for a sweet, cozy atmosphere and we ended up loving being totally unplugged. We did end up having to charge our phones at a nearby restaurant so I would recommend bringing your own battery pack. They offered an outlet at the barn but it was pouring so we enjoyed being unplugged and had no service anyway! The beds were very comfortable and we played games by lantern light and the kids loved walking the bridge during breaks in the rain. The kids got to learn about a composting toilet and marveled at How the hostswere able to provide us a hot shower via propane tank! We really got to appreciate the slowness of being off the grid. We spent one day in town in Brattleboro which was wonderful. The Trollhaugen farm is truly a gem and we are happy to have made some wonderful memories there!

This stay was everything we were hoping for and more! Johanna & Brahman were excellent hosts, willing to accommodate us same day and still left us with farm fresh eggs for breakfast 😍 We absolutely loved the yurt, which provided the roof over our heads we were looking for during our rainy stay. It had everything we needed plus more and was very comfortable! We love Newfane, Brattleboro, and Keene, and this location was fabulous for exploring all three of those places!
