NorthWood Stewardship Center is a non-profit facility that was established over 30 years ago.  The main building has a kitchen, dining room and a large conference room.  There are over 1500 acres of property with wilderness campsites, fields, ponds and streams.  Cross country ski and hiking trails wind their way through the pine plantations and the spruce and fir forests.   We offer hands on learning experiences to students of all ages both in classroom presentations, field trips and overnight camping.  Close to the Clyde River, we offer many canoe expeditions.  During the summer, we employ close to 100 teenagers through the Youth Conservation Corps with USFW Services in the States of Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Connecticut. The Bunkhouse was build in 2016 and is available to anyone who is interested.  It sleeps 16 and has been rented to Colleges for Forest Science study, many retreats, family gatherings, skiiers who base here and also use Jay Peak and Burke Mountain, and also Native American Cultural Regeneration groups. We have one lean to, 4 tent platforms and two canvas tents that are available for rent as well as the open meadow with a large firepit in the center.of it.

Forest Edge Lean-to
Sweet lean-to in the woods
The forest edge lean-to is truly incredible, and is an unbelievable peaceful shelter/escape only a 2 hour drive from Burlington! The lean-to is brand new, with clear panels on top so natural light streams in during the day. It looks out over the incredible coniferous forest and is a short walk to the restrooms/water at the main lodge. We fell asleep to the most amazing forest sounds of swooping and calling owls and felt completely secluded at this gem in at Northwoods, even though there were other folks on site. In front of the lean-to (which can easily sleep a group!) is a wooden bench and fire pit. I highly recommend walking the property trails, and reading about the amazing conservation education work happening here.

Forest Edge Lean-to
Beautiful lean to
Brand new beautiful lean-to. Fall asleep to the sound of nothing except the occasional owl and the sweet smell of the pine forest. Lovely trails. Restrooms in the main lodge. Didn’t need the shower that was available. Host very friendly. Wish we could have stayed longer.
