Welcome to The Dam Spot, named so for it's location close to the Lake Somerville dam and for the beaver dam on the property! It's right on highway TX-36 about halfway between Houston and Austin, close to Brenham and College Station, just south of Somerville, and within just a few minutes of Lake Somerville by car. Right now, our property is set up for primitive camping only. Bring all your own supplies. There are plenty of areas for you to pick from to set up camp. Don't forget to bring your boat, jet skis, or kayaks too so you can head out for a day on the lake! The road noise from the highway can be a bit annoying, but lively chatter with friends and family next to a crackling campfire drowns that out some. See if you can catch a glimpse of Buck working on his beaver dam near the southeast corner of the property, or explore along the creek to the natural tree root bridge to walk over to the other side of the creek. If you want to get away for a day trip, head south over to Brenham where you can tour the Blue Bell ice cream factory or go east to College Station to visit Texas A&M and catch a game at Kyle Field. Of course, Lake Somerville is just a few minutes away, so bring your boat, jet skis, or kayaks for a day out on the water. We recently purchased this property after "the year of which we do not speak" for our own family getaways close to the lake and we're super grateful for the opportunity to share it with you. Our place may not be perfect but we hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Thanks for checking out The Dam Spot!

The Dam Spot
Still the best
I will never cease recommending this campsite. I cannot wait for school to be out so I can take my kids. I know the owner is making major upgrades and I can't wait to see them

Still love it. Owner has added electricity and provided an AC unit as well as a mounted tent. Have booked 3 times and very pleased.

The Dam Spot
My new favorite place.
I cannot say enough about how much I enjoyed my stay. The land is located right off of a main road, so yes there is a lot of road noise, but I was working nights and sleeping days and was not bothered by the noise even when the road was busy, so sleeping at night should not be a problem. The site is huge and very private. The main section has excellent tree cover and plenty of old branches and dead wood to feed your fire. The back portion is much more open, so a great area for family sports/games. The creek is pretty and nice to explore, but shallow and no evidence of fish. The beaver dams are interesting, but shy, I never saw it. Wildlife consisted of lots of small birds with their usual chatter, large Vulture sitting her eggs in one of the abandoned sheds, and a herd of cows that came through twice. I was gushing about the site to my coworkers, family and friends from the moment I arrived. I will most certainly return, really want to bring my family for a stay and 1 million percent recommend the site. Owner was communicative, polite and more than accommodating.

The Dam Spot
Big spot, great price, lake nearby!
I had such a nice time at The Dam Spot! Thank you to Juan and Rose for hosting me and my family. Juan was very helpful with instructions and any questions I had. We enjoyed our primitive camping experience. Juan even let us use his rooftop tent and some hammocks. My favorite part is having the entire place to ourselves instead of just one little tent site like you would normally get at a state park. Juan told us the road noise might be loud but we got used to it. At least it’s nice being on the highway with easy access to the lake and everything. The cost was really low too! Book now before prices go up because Juan and Rose have big plans for The Dam Spot. We can’t wait to be back!

Camping, Fishing and Pups!
I really enjoyed camping out on Juan's property! The road nearby quickly fades to white noise at night and didn't bother me. My puppy Ryder accompanied me and he also enjoyed our stay. Juan was kind enough to let us use his rooftop tent which was a game changer considering his neighbor's cows would come wandering through the land at night. I fished both days at the local lake and river bed which were fun excursions to get outside! Overall, I'd love to come back in the future and see the progress he's made on his new Hipcamp listing! 10/10 in my book!
