Best for self-contained campers. There are no toilets, showers, or potable water at this Hipcamp.

Twenty raw acres nestled in the heart of the Hill Country, just a short drive northwest of San Antonio. Easy to find, with wide open sky, perfect for viewing the eclipse or just watching for falling stars. It's just a short walk to local PoPo's Restaurant and the Dollar Store, or about a mile walk/bike ride in the other direction to visit and enjoy Joshua Springs Park & Preserve, where you can hike the trails, go paddling in your canoe or kayak, or take advantage of the bird blinds to see a painted bunting or any of the other local birds.Wide open space, west of San Antonio, dotted with the Hill Country's signature live oaks and a token cedar or two. While the land itself is raw, quiet amenities are but a stone's throw away. 100 yards away, PoPo's restaurant offers delicious "home cookin" style meals and a full bar. Nearly the same distance is a dollar store that will allow you to pick up forgotten items without having to drive the short 8 miles into town. This land is situated about halfway between Boerne and Comfort, along the Ih-10 access road (aka FM 289, or Green Cedar Rd) To the west on FM 289 is Kendall County's hidden gem, Joshua Springs Park & Preserve. A quiet park, with miles of hiking trails, you can also enjoy birding in one of the blinds, paddle on the quiet waters of their small lake area, or practice catch and release fishing in it's waters. The Guadalupe River winds through the area as well, with a number of opportunities for access. Keep in mind that with summer droughts, most of the river is dry in fall/winter 2023. Caliche along the sides of the roadways in the area are prime fossil-hunting opportunities. Due to the wide open nature of the land, privacy is limited. The views are amazing, with the sunset falling between hills to the west, and a night sky where you can have practically the entire sky at your disposal. There are several stands of live oak on site, which will be claimed as camping on a FCFS basis. Pets are welcome, but please be considerate of other campers and clean up after him when he does his business. We practice leave no trace policies - please don't leave your trash for others to (not) enjoy. We aren't fancy, but we're clean, and we ask that you respect the property.

We didn't actually stay, the weather shut us out. Frank was very gracious and we are sorry we didn't get to meet him in preson.

This site was as described. The host provided good directions and instructions for entering and choosing a camp area. Note there is no water, restrooms, or fires.

Clean and convenient

Conveniently located off the highway, safe easy spot for a night’s rest on a road trip. Directions were clear, host responsive to questions. Minimalist, clean, just as expected. There are several spots to spread out, some shady and grassy.

Great Place to Camp

Stayed here for the 2024 solar eclipse and had an amazing experience. This place was a good price when a lot of other hosts were price-gouging for the eclipse dates. The place was probably as busy as it gets when we stayed, but there were enough treed areas to provide privacy for everyone. I was able to use the bathroom and shower off in the trees without flashing or mooning anyone. We we a pretty little area between some cedar trees to set up our tent. This place is close to a highway. I personally am a fan of highway noise; it's like a white noise that relaxes me. My wife wasn't a fan, but we both slept fine. Dollar General is super convenient, almost next door. There's a great park nearby about a mile away with a nice 3 mile loop trail. Overall would definitely stay again: great place, awesome experience.
