GET AWAY without going FAR AWAY! Feels like the middle of nowhere, but it's only 25 miles to downtown Austin and 15 miles to the charming little town of Bastrop with its eateries, shops and historic buildings. Spend quiet nights in the country listening to the coyotes howl and the owls hoot. Hike the nearby Roughs (trailhead is 2 miles away) or book a river canoe or kayak trip with one of the local outfitters. Bring the family and have a weekend event under the trees and covered shade of our Pony Pavilion! Hollis and her wonderful voice, great stories and powerful ukuleles now offer LIVE MUSIC by your very own campfire, for your private enjoyment. (See the EXTRAS category to book a $20/45 minute/weather-permitting show, or a 1-hour Ukulele lesson, or just get with Hollis when you show up at camp) Enjoy the park trails, the Happy Horse on-site Scavenger Hunt, the delightful maze of campground trails (on your bikes!) and the peace and quiet! Happy Horse Hotel is on 22 acres conveniently located between Austin and Bastrop in the Pope Bend of the Colorado River. LCRA's fabulous McKinney Roughs Nature Park is 2 miles up the road, adjacent to the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort. The camp area is 9 secluded, fenced and wooded acres laced with all-dirt flat biking and walking trails on our property. We encourage you to bring your bicycles along. The bird watching is great!

Site 10 - Happy Horse Camping, Cabin, and RV
Happy Horse Hotel had a great blend of nature and creativity with attention to detail. We chose this location mostly for the location and accessibility to Austin. The campsites were easily accessible and clean, with a few but not too many string lights. The outhouse's were decorated as if they were indoor bathrooms. The showers were open to the sky and trees. Keep your eyes open and you will see wildlife. We enjoyed listening to Hollis play her uke and visiting with Beau. It would be a terrific place to stay if you had horses, too! (We didn't)

The Camping Palace (sleeps 1-2)
Hollis and Beaux are vary welcoming and communicative. I stayed in the Camping Palace, which was very cozy and comfortable. I was in town for an event so, unfortunately, didn’t have much time to just hang out and enjoy the property. I did get to take a ukelele lesion with Hollis, which was fun and amazing! I highly recommend a ukelele lesson with Hollis and a visit to the Happy Horse Camp.

Happy Horse Bunkhouse
Had a great stay!
So many good things to say about this place. I’ll try to summarize. We stayed for two nights, we were the only campers there so we may have gotten special treatment. But the way Hollis and Beaux have personality pouring out of them, I’d say they probably treat everyone with the same amazing hospitality that I received. Just some highlights; -Communication was excellent. Hollis made sure to confirm every step of the trip, provided clear instructions and details. -Very welcoming. Beaux was there to greet us and show us around the property. All basic necessities, besides toiletries are provided for a really comfortable stay. Good ac as well. - Each cabin had their own outhouse/sink and outdoor shower with hot water. All of which are well maintained and kept as clean as outdoor facilities can be. - Even though we were the only visitors, I could imagine the good times to be had when larger groups are there. -Lots of space!!! It’s like a mini neighborhood of cabins in the woods but still lots of space and privacy. - You can tell they love their land..and horses! The landscaping was well maintained, we were even able to run around barefoot on the soft grass. -It’s surrounded by lush greenery so there are naturally lots of bugs and wildlife to see and listen to while exploring the trails on the scavenger hunt! - 20 minutes to downtown Bastrop and really close to Dinosaur park for the kiddos.

The boys and I loved tent camping at the happy horse hotel. It really felt like we were out in the wild unlike some of the overcrowded popular destinations. We will definitely be back.

Happy Horse Bungalow
Always fun
My family has stayed at the Happy Horse Hotel multiple times and we love it. My daughter went back with some friends on this particular trip and despite the 95 degree weather, they enjoyed themselves tremendously in the air conditioned bungalow and even enjoyed a fire at night to roast marshmallows. Thanks, Hollis, for another great experience.
