Best in Texas: Finalist
Named one of the best Hipcamps to visit in 2024.
Where the short-grass prairie drops into the Red River Valley, the 4R Ranch—with its magnificent vistas and rocky terrain—is perfectly suited for growing grapes. Patriarch W.C. Roper encouraged his family of sixth-generation Texans to share the beauty of this extraordinary place with others; and so it was love of this man and love of the land that inspired 4R Ranch Vineyards & Winery. Chinquapin oaks, white-tailed deer, the endangered black-capped vireo, and the occasional Rio Grande turkey inhabit this incredible property. Powered by sun, earth and wind, 4R Ranch Vineyards & Winery calls us all to slow our pace, enjoy the view, and sip a glass of wine in the magnificent Red River Valley.

Shower and toilet needs work
Tent · With kids ·
The site was rather nice, very secluded, the creek wasn’t really a creek, more of a ditch that water really wasn’t flowing through. Maybe that’s just the time of the year with lower water levels. The toilet is a porta potty, that was pretty gross, but the shower was even grocer. Pour waterproofing job on the bottom, smelled like sewage or mold, or a combination of both. Worst of all, the shower faucet above, shot out at every direction except down, making it almost impossible to rinse off. A dollar store showerhead would be significantly better than what’s in there. Not sure what the issue is, maybe it’s clogged, I don’t know. The roads leading to the camp are rock, which is fine, but a bunch of very fine dust kicks up every time a car passes. Clearly cancer waiting to happen.

Campsites are far enough away from other campers. I love the ability to go to the tasting room and have a snack or lunch. The place is quite and private.

My 1st trip, so successful!
Lucky 13, my 1st camping trip was perfect! This is a smaller compact, spot, as described. The spots were nicely marked and the handbook provided all the necessary info! I camped prior to the trail race. The trail is in great shape and well marked, even without the race. This is a nice getaway. The hill to get down and up to the winery is a bit scary unless you are in AWD or a truck. Take it slow.

4R Site 14
Tent · With kids ·
The sites are large and well laid out with plenty of separation from neighboring sites. The hiking trail is easily accessible and is nice because it is one huge loop, so you can't really get lost. We loved site 14 and it has plenty of shade. Having access to free firewood on site was a huge plus on a couple of chilly nights/mornings.

Great experience camping and walking up to the winery. Was rainy when we went but still a very cool atmosphere!
