Opening May 13th 2024 for the camping season! Two years ago our multi-generational family decided to go on an adventure. We had talked about moving to the woods for years, but finally decided to turn our dreams into reality. After hiking through what felt like every property for sale over 100 acres in North Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee, we finally found the perfect spot. Why do we call our property Whippoorwill Woods? Did you know that whippoorwills don’t nest in trees? They lay their eggs on the ground in the forest. They’re birds that love camping! As soon as we heard the whippoorwills start singing in the spring, we knew it was the perfect name. We’re so excited to share our property with campers who love nature as much as we do. We specifically set up the campsites to give as much privacy as possible. We hope you’ll come visit and soak up the bird songs, the wind in the trees, and the beautiful sunsets over the mountains. We have 20 acres of savannah grassland full of native plants and wildflowers and over 80 untouched acres full of awesome rock formations and creeks with waterfalls available for you to hike. There's a stocked fish pond for catch and release fishing and a gorgeous view overlooking the Cumberland Plateau and the Sherwood Valley. Experienced and beginner campers are welcome! We live on one side of the property, so we’re available to assist (setting up tents for the first few times is no joke!) or we’re happy to give you as much space and solitude as you need. We have three campsites available in the native savannah grassland, and one that is a "hike-in and choose your favorite spot in the woods" site. We have a porta-potty available, but if you're hiking in, you'll want to bring some WAG bags with you. If you have any questions, or if there’s anything we can do to help, don’t hesitate to ask! We look forward to your visit! The Jansohn and Combs Families

Quiet amazing view.
This property was so peaceful. The only noise you will hear is the sound of crickets and leaves rustling. Our family of 4 loved spending 2 nights on this beautiful property. Amazing views too!

Primitive Camping with nice view
Because of the views at this location, I think that the fall would probably be the most perfect time. Sunsets and Sunrises with the view towards the mountains....dreamy. In case there are doubts: - This is a primitive camping site (though the hosts have a VERY VERY clean porta potty there, and have graciously placed a large bin there for your trash) * In my book, this is not only smart from the hosts, but it removes any excuse anyone would have as to why leave trash behind. Use the bin. It is a great spot. We were very thankful for this - Though we were the only ones there, the host has some other spots there, but you still keep lots of privacy. nice touch. - As others have mentioned, my only suggestion on area of improvement, would be that the host cuts a little lower on the blade. No need for gravel, but the ground does need to be cut lower. - Bring binoculars. can't say enough about the views - Bring mosquito repellent, enough power, water...and something for shade. Site 2 has a tree that provides some, but that's about it. - Last tip: Drive all the way to the end of the road. there are two house buildings. The host came out of the one before last ;)

Camping with a view
Katie is very nice. Her dad is the dad that everyone wishes they had. They offered for us to call or come if we needed anything since we were a single woman and a toddler. Very hospitable. Firewood was good and dry. My little guy loved casting his pole into the water. The view of the sunset was very pretty. The listing says water provided and past reviews say water but she will clarify that you have to bring water. The tall grass surrounding the site is full of crickets and grasshoppers and minute pirate bugs that bite. You will be swarmed and you have been warned. There's a slight slope and some large dips in the ground you have to look out for(almost twisted my ankle several times). Overall, it's nice for the price but hopefully will be improved by leveling the sites or somewhat covering them with gravel. The pinchy plants mentioned in the other reviews are real and they meant thorny brambles. My toddler brought one into our tent. I would check the ground for all the things before you decide to pitch your tent. If you're used to roughing it then the trash can and portapotty will be glamorous for you!

The place was beautiful! They dropped off a pop up canopy since my site didn’t have shade, just to have some extra shade on a hot and sunny weekend. I loved being able to disconnect for a few days.
