Located on a 500 foot ridge above the Mississippi River delta, Sugarberry Ridge is sixteen acres of open lawn, wooded forest, and well-established kudzu. With plans underway to develop a food forest, a pollinator meadow, and community gardens, each guest is sure to see something interesting going on. Goats and chickens will be joining the farm crew shortly. About a fifteen minute drive south will take you to Meeman-Shelby State Forest for some of the best hiking trails in the midsouth. Between Meeman-Shelby and The Old Forest in Overton Park, a state-protected old growth stand in the heart of Memphis, you'll see what the Mississippi River uplands used to look like. If you've had enough nature and want to hit some museums, live shows, galleries, etc., Memphis has it all. The drive-up campsite is located toward the rear of the property for plenty of privacy. A handicap-accessible porta-potty is provided near the site. Coming later this fall: a primitive outdoor shower! The campsite is over 5,000 square feet / 460 square meters of lawn located in a secluded nook, surrounded by early succession deciduous upland forest. Campers will be able to unplug and connect with nature for a healing retreat. Listen to cicadas and coyotes in the evening, watch dancing dragonflies and darting hummingbirds during the day. Lucky guests will see our resident hawk swoop down for a field mouse. WiFi password of the house will be posted at the charging station (an extension cord and a couple lawn chairs outside my residence). Campers may use the wifi to access necessary communications as there is no reliable cell service. The drive-up campsite is located toward the rear of the property for plenty of privacy. A handicap-accessible porta-potty is provided near the site. Coming this fall is a primitive (cold only) outdoor shower, but right now it's just the portapotty.

We pulled up outside the home and was greeted by someone who did not live there and a couple of dogs that ran right up to our vehicle. She had no idea we were coming. She eventually got ahold of the owner who forgot we were arriving. We were directed to where we were supposed to park. It’s good we had 4WD. We searched but could not find the porto, the electric hookup, nor the wifi password- which was problematic since I had to work and specifically chose locations offering wifi. We also did not have a camp toilet with us, which is why we booked sites that listed bathroom facilities. Thankfully we are both comfortable going in the woods. Also thankful we are both able to identify poison ivy because it was everywhere. This felt like the owner started setting up to offer Hipcamp and never finished putting in the amenities listed. We rolled with it and left early but I can’t in good conscious recommend the site to others until major issues are addressed or the listing is changed to reflect accuracy of the site.

Grass not cut in a very long while. Pot holes in driveway. Good for tenting but not big RVs.

It’s exactly as the description says. It’s a semi private spot in a backyard. Good for a night stay. My expectations were high. I thought I was gonna have a view of the Mississippi River but you don’t and there’s no way of driving to it because I tried.

I encouraged Tara to include "meadow" in her description... it was my quintessential picture of a meadow... grassy area surrounded by trees for protection. It's a little out of the way from Memphis, but that was fine, I needed the distance from civilization. Tara was very quick to communicate, and covered my needs quickly. I hope she puts a wifi extender out, but there was wifi available closer to her house. I will definitely go back!
