This little house was built as a storage shed back in the 70’s or somewhere there abouts. It was originally constructed partially over an old tobacco barn foundation. The original barn was built sometime in the 1940’s and was struck by lightening in the 70’s and burned to the ground. 85% of the materials used in the remodeling of what we now call Rustic Ridge was reclaimed materials. Most of the planks and finish lumber Which includes wormy chestnut, ash and cherry wood was salvaged from an old farmhouse that was dismantled on our nearby property. With all new plumbing and electrical you get all the safety and comfort of your own home. The house does not have AC and it is hardly ever needed. Even in the heat of summer the house stays cool being located under a canopy of tall birch, poplar and cherry trees. Heat is provided by electric baseboard and wall heat as well as an electric fireplace.
There is a small stream that runs just below the house. You can easily access the “creek” via a path just below the house. The water runs off the mountain above the house from about 5000 feet and is always cold. Feel free to splash around or soak your feet for a little while. Sit and enjoy a morning cup of coffee at the little table or in a porch rocker while listening to the stream. Afternoons are the perfect time to enjoy the fire pit. Feel free to collect dead twigs and branches from the woods near the creek just don’t cut anything. I will provide an arm load of dry firewood per visit and more will be available at $5/arm load on site (5-6 pieces). If you are up to a walk in the woods we own a 9 acre tract just across the street from Rustic Ridge. There is an old logging road that runs through it with pretty views. Help your self to a hike and take nothing with you but pictures and memories.
