Home Ranch LLC rents property from ranchers to provide nature experiences to campers that want to getaway from the crowds. This property provides access to juniper canyons that are home to a wide variety of wildlife on over 1000 acres. You can almost always see some deer, a variety of birds: including ducks, geese, great blue herons, and eagles. Meadowlarks and coyotes can usually be heard daily. The campers can also enjoy wading or fishing in the Cheyenne River that borders the property on the west side. The river is just a short hike through the cottonwood covered bottoms that show signs of raccoon and beaver activity. Children can enjoy climbing on logs, playing hide and go seek in the trees or throwing rocks in the river. The sunrises and sunsets can be quite spectacular. The ranch also allows for some star gazing at night. Feel free to bring your telescopes. If Campers arrive in April or May they can go on a calving tour to see the newborn calves. If coming in June through August campers could catch a tour to put out mineral and salt for the cattle in summer pasture or maybe ride along in the haying process.( These tours would not happen on a daily basis.) Every day is different on a ranch. Home Ranch tries to spreadout the campsites so campers don't feel like others are intruding on their space and interrupting their quite time to enjoy nature. Sometimes depending on the weather (rain) you may be asked to move your camper to a different site on the ranch to avoid being stuck in the mud. The town of Wall (home of Wall Drug) is about a 15 minute drive. the Badlands National Park is about 25 minutes from the campsites. Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park and other tourist spots are about one and a half hours driving time.Park your RV close to the tree for shade when sitting outside in this flat grassy area next to the hayfield. The pump pond is right next to the campsite for watching wildlife. River access is just a short walk from the campsite if you want to go fishing or wading, You can go for walks among the cottonwood trees and watch the birds as they call out to each other. If you crave a longer walk you can walk up into the juniper-covered river breaks. After watching the sunset you can enjoy looking up at the stars and listening for the coyotes to start howling. The downside to this site is that it is next to the hayfield and if it is time to put up the hay your quiet may be interrupted by the sound of tractors, but you may enjoy watching the process of the field being cut, raked, baled, and stacked. Haying takes place for about a week each month from June thru September. We make hay while the sun shines and sometimes into the night. Fresh-cut hay does leave a wonderful sweet smell in the air for a time. The Badlands and Wall Drug are about a 15-25 minute drive. The movie " Custer's Plan" was filmed on this ranch as was the documentary shown at the Little Bighorn Battlefield. This ranch is the home of children's book author Cowgirl Annie. She will also be your host.

Angela, the host, was wonderful. She met us at the entrance and showed us around, letting us pick our spot for the night. The land is absolutely stunning. It feels like you’re out in the middle of nowhere, but just minutes from the highway, Wall, and Badlands National Park. We had beautiful views, and so much space for our dogs to stretch their legs after a long travel day. The land is nice and level so we had no issues with parking our camper van. I would recommend if visiting in July (ie. peak mosquito season) to bring a screen tent and/or bug screens for hanging out, and lots of bug spray, as the mosquitoes were quite thick even in the mid-morning hours.

Wonderful Host, way too many bugs…
The host was wonderful and so kind. She was very helpful with directions. The campsite itself was another story. There were so many bugs we could not go outside of our car with out being swarmed and bitten many, many times. We could not even open the doors of the car without having dozens of mosquitos fly in. Bug spray did not help in the slightest with this issue because there were so many mosquitoes. The campground was really overgrown and the river was not accessible due to an electric fence, bardedwire, and a large overgrown slope. Based on the description of the campsite, I was under the impression it would be easy to access and we could swim in it… definitely not the case. The bugs were really so horrible that it ruined our camping experience. I am aware there are bugs outside on camping grounds and have camped many times and never encountered this many mosquitos and grasshoppers that made the stay unbearable. Our car and some of our belongings also got sprayed a skunk. All of this made it impossible for us to spend the second night we had booked on the campground.

Beautiful find and superb host!
I can’t express how perfect our stay was. Angela was incredibly helpful and a wonderful host. She took us (our 3 young kids included) on a tour of the ranch and she was full of information and stories. My kids haven’t stopped talking about the baby cows! The location is right off the beaten path, but you feel like you’re in a secluded area. If you wanted to, you could stay here and never see another person, or you can take up Angela on her farm tour if you’re feeling more social. Before leaving, she gifted us with a copy of the children’s book she wrote. My only regret is not staying longer.
