Luxury glamping pods with all mod cons, with an elevated position overlooking the River Tay.

With sweeping views across the River Tay to the Sidlaw Hills in the north, the Barony Road, between Newburgh and Wormit is said to be one of the most scenic roads in Fife. Turn off it, though, on to the single-lane track opposite Logie Farm, and something magical happens. Slowly you begin to ascend until, a couple of minutes later, you’re almost 400 metres above the farm with surely some of the finest views for miles. It’s the perfect vantage point for taking it all in. And it’s the exact location of The Snug, a new glamping site first opening in 2021.

Home to a collection of modern glamping pods, The Snug, in its elevated position amongst grassy meadows, is an ode to the farm’s history as well as a cosy place for glampers to stay. Long before these modern pods, which come with en-suite shower rooms, underfloor heating, mood lighting and wireless tech, there were modest bothies on the farm, used by salmon fishermen on the Tay. Owners Jo and Andrew were unable to safely restore them, so landed on the idea of installing the glamping pods instead, built nearby in Central Scotland and with Harris Tweed touches inside.

The pods are certainly luxurious places to stay. In short, they have all the facilities you might expect of a hotel room, including a Nespresso coffee machine and a super-king-sized bed. Black-out blinds ensure a good night’s sleep and there’s a fridge, a television and built-in sound system. The stand out feature, though, comes not in the furnishings but in the form of the large circular window at the northern end, which offers ever-present views of the River Tay.

Logie means ‘meadow land’ in Gaelic and the immediate surroundings are grazed by a herd of cattle and flock of Swiss Valais Blacknose sheep – the latter have been dubbed ‘the world’s cutest sheep’ and Jock, Hamish, Tavish and the gang in the neighbouring meadow are certainly worthy of a photograph or two. They’re an important part of Andrew and Jo’s approach to sustainable and forward-thinking farming, which has also seen them recently build a pond and, in the year they first opened the site, plant some 6,500 hedge plants alone.

The view tries its hardest to draw you back away from the glamping site and out to explore. The road down below is part of a marked cycle route (Route 777) and, a little further up the slope behind the pods, passes the Fife Coastal Path, which tracks a similar elevation to the glamping site before climbing to the top of Norman's Law hill for panoramic vistas. By car, meanwhile, it’s half an hour to Perth, Dundee and the historic town of St Andrews and 25 minutes to Falkland and the Lomond Hills, where some of the most recent series of Outlander was filmed.

Situated on one of the most scenic routes in Fife, The Snug at Logie Farm is a family-owned collection of luxury, award-winning Snugs (pods) with hottubs and breathtaking panoramic views of the River Tay.  "the perfect get away from it all experience on the Gold Coast of Fife" Each Snug sleeps two people (and one infant up to 1 year old in a cot- please request this at booking) and has a large glass circular window overlooking the River Tay, super-king size bed, Harris Tweed interior touches ,underfloor and air source heating, ensuite wet-room shower facilities, mood lighting, wireless charging, private decking, hotter, bbq area and more. Breakfast hampers are included in the price.  Jo and Andrew, the owners of The Snug (and farmers at Logie Farm) are passionate about their Scottish heritage and the history of the farm. Each pod interior is uniquely designed to pay homage to the Salmon Bothy ruins which are situated on the farm and form part of the local history involving the monks of Lindores Abbey. The Snug is nestled in an elevated location amongst the rolling meadow grass lands at Logie Farm.  It overlooks the widest part of the River Tay and the land known locally as “the Gold Coast of Fife”. Looking directly across you can see straight into the Perthshire hills and the famous munro fairy hill of the Caledonians “Schielhalion”. The elevated location, luxury experiential accommodation and enchanting views offer you the chance to disconnect from the day-to-day, unwind and enjoy the natural surroundings. With a view of the tidal changes in the River Tay by day and dancing northern lights and Dundee city lights by night, it mesmerises everyone who visits.   We are a stones-throw from the Fife Coastal Path, Falkland (filming location of Inverness in “Outlander”) Lindores Abbey Distillery, the historic town of St Andrews, Perthshire and the city of discovery Dundee. You can be sure a warm Scottish welcome awaits you here at Logie Farm  Internal Dimensions of each Bothy- Length: 4.6 m (15’ 1”)•Width: 2.78 m (9’ 1”)•Height: 2.69 m (8’ 8”)•Floor Area: 10.8 m2 (116 sq ft) California is also Dog-Friendly so your favourite canine friend can enjoy your break with you. Make sure you check this out!
We loved staying in the California Pod at Snug at Logie Farm, the views were amazing and the pod itself was brilliant, we were able to access and adjust heating easily as well as the cool lighting effects. We loved that the whole bathroom area turned into a shower, we had never seen this before, it’s a little small and cramped, but saves space in the room! We unfortunately forgot to check if there were cookers and utensils and brought our own food, but there weren’t any so I’d recommend just bringing pre-made food, going out to eat at one of the local restaurants (which they tell you about via email or in your welcome pack) or pre-ordering the bbq set they offer and Jo was kind enough to let us order this once we got there so we could have our dinner. We spent the night in January and check in is at 3pm so it’s was getting quite dark already and then we had to check out at 10am the next morning, not giving us much daylight, so I would make the most of being outside while you can before it gets dark or book to stay two nights to really make the most of the next day, which is what we will be doing next time! It’s a bit on the pricy side, but well worth it once you get there! The hot-tub was brilliant and we were able to connect to Bluetooth speakers from the pod to listen to music and charge our phones on wireless charge ports. The bed was super comfortable and the nespresso machine provided was perfect for my morning coffee with a view! Make sure you check it out!

classy camping in a lovely location
Great vista over the Tay. Very classy Pods. Used the hot tub and fire pit outside. Stayed 2 nights. Arrived late afternoon and settled in on the first night with some pre prepared food we brought with us for eating cold. Saturday we Walked a local stretch of the Fife Coastal path that took in Normans Law (the local hill). Had a nice meal on Saturday evening in the Boar’s head at Auchtermuchty. Had marshmallows on the fire pit in the evening! Sunday morning we packed up and had a very enjoyable visit to St Andrews before heading home. All in all a very successful weekend.

The Snug
The Snug at Logie Farm was amazing. The pod was spacious and beautifully kitted out. There was a welcome hamper of food and snacks and beautiful toiletries in the wet room. The outside space was fantastic with unbelievable views of the Loch and surrounding countryside. It was remote and peaceful yet easy to access towns and villages. We had a wonderful 2 night stay and will definitely be back.

Such a beautiful and incredible wee spot. The Snug was so nice, with such a lot of little hidden goodies! The BBQ and fire pit were great. Could have stayed there so much longer than a night. Will definitely be back! Thanks Jo and Andy!

Nearby attractions

The Snug is just a few hundred yards from the Fife Coastal Path, which, at the point it passes the glamping site, isn't actually by the waterside but curves around Glenduckie Hill and stays inland, taking in awe-inspiring views on the top of Norman's Law hill and continuing all the way to ruined Balmerino Abbey (01721 722502), six miles away. Along with the coastal path, the road below The Snug is also part of the national cycle network (route 777), which follows the coast between Newburgh (four miles; 20 minutes or so on the bike) and Dundee (13 miles; over an hour on the bike). The town of Newburgh has local grocery shops, a medical centre, a museum (01334 659328), a butchers, bakers, post office, takeaways and an art gallery (01337 842323). En-route there is also the Lindores Abbey Distillery and Visitor Centre (01337 842547; just over five minutes' drive or an hour's walk), where regular tours help you learn about the history of the abbey, the monks, William Wallace and, of course, the whisky. Further afield, there's a good wealth of options within a half hour drive: Historic St Andrews, with it's quaint town centre, old golf course, abbey ruins and cathedral (01334 472563); Dundee, vibrant and bustling and home to the Victoria and Albert Museum (01382 411611); and Perth, another lively spot and the gateway to Scotland's famous North Coast 500 route.

Food and drink

There's nothing within easy walking distance of The Snug but it takes less than 10 minutes to drive into Newburgh, where you can stock up at the shops or grab a bite to eat at Café Alice (07999 067484) or, five minutes beyond in Abernethy, at the excellent Crees Inn (01738 851086), a picturesque former farmhouse in the shadow of Abernethy Tower. Other top local restaurants include The Kirkstyle Inn (40 minutes away; 01764 684248) in Dunning and Loch Leven's Larder (01592 841000) and The Court House (01577 351020) in Kinross. If you're exploring St Andrews, try Balgove Steak Barn (01334 898145) or, for something less meaty, The Doll's House (01334 477422), while in Perth, the Italian food at Roma (01738 620539) is a top pick, as is Kisa's Restaurant (01738 451888).
