Primitive site 2
The site is private and hidden from sight, but you would not believe how much road noise impacts the experience. I knew there would be some from other reviews... but really, truly, it's quite loud!
Also, the weather was completely disconnected from the weather at "New Tripoli." We got non stop 24/hrs of downpouring rain while the weather reports said there was no rain happening at all. There was not a moment of break in the rain the entire time we stayed. It must be in a microclimate of its own or something, and I know the weather isn't the host's fault, but genuinely it does impact how I view the site. It can downpour endlessly here with nothing on the forecast and nothing in the reports as it's happening. (For clarification, there was no old hurricane effecting us, etc.)
And while we were there, we had no view whatsoever. We couldn't see 50 yards through the rain and fog! This site, without the view, is not great. Can't go to the lake either in these conditions. And there is not much else on the site to do if weather isn't great, though the road noise drones on Again can't blame the hosts, but not every campsite loses so much by losing a view. And you might not know ahead of time.

An Easygoing Campsite for Relaxing
Glen and Bern are amazing people! Like, really, really great. The campsite (Primitve Site 2) had plenty of space to set up tents or hammocks. We had three hammocks and a tent set up at one point. Plenty of space for our three cars. The site was perfectly equipped with a large picnic table with plenty of seating, chairs for lounging, a warming fire pit, and a big ol’ fire pit with grill top. The AT is within 20 meters. A restaurant around 60 walkable meters. While the site is close to the road, it was still really quiet at night. It’s a nice campsite located in a very nice location in PA. Definitely hike the 3 miles out to Knife’s Edge and come back to the heated outdoor showers near the backpackers tent site. Simple and relaxing with amazing hosts. We’re grateful for the stay.
Primitive site 2
Overall, site 2 was a good campsite. Very private and we couldn’t hear the family in site 1. A few minor issues were the fact that there was glass all over the path from site 1 up to the gate, which reading other reviews, it has been there for awhile with no reasoning for it. Also, yes, there is wood there to buy, but it looked like they took fallen trees and cut into small pieces, not true, large pieces of firewood. The outdoor shower was a plus, but the porta potty was at site 1, so if you’re at site 2, you have to walk through site 1 to get there, which isn’t very courteous for those at site 1. Lastly, when booking, the description did not say the lookout was a shared lookout, but I see now that it has been updated. There is also a small hostel on the site for hikers.

Camping @ Site 1
We loved camping on Geln and Bern's land! The site was very spacious with room for a hamack tent, 6 person tent and a mini van. The glass wasn't a bother, the pieces weren't sharp and it was contained to one area of the site, the close vacinity to the road was also not as disturbing as we inticapated especially at night when traffic calmed . We loved the quick access to the Appalachian trail and the views from the lookout are bueatiful!

The Lookout Site 1
The site was great! It was close to the Appalachian trail which was an awesome hike and a short drive from other attractions (Bear Rock Junction, Leaser Lake, etc…) Firewood was close by to the site and reasonably priced. There was a working restroom close to the site also which was great. Despite being close to the highway the site felt very private. Bernadette was a great host. She gave us great tips about where to go hiking and exploring when she greeted us. I recommend this site.
