Pond House
Peaceful Paradise
The Pond House at the Sharpening Stone is a small slice of paradise amongst the misty and wooded mountains. This unique cabin has clearly been crafted with a great deal of hard work and love. The wood stove keeps it surprisingly warm, even when it's frosty/snowing outside, and while it is tough to get the hang of using it, Sarah and Adam leave very helpful instructions as well as abundant dry wood and kindling. The kitchen is equipped with a vintage stove/oven that works very well for all the usual cooking that I have done on a modern stove/oven. The water is a little murky, but safe and tasty to drink. There doesn't seem to be quite enough in the hot water tank to fully fill the big, beautiful bathtub, but after waiting a bit for it to refill you can get a decently warm bath. The electricity is not reliable, but is enough to charge devices durong the day and light the cabin briefly after sunset. I reccomend bringing flashlights, battery powered lanterns, and/or candles. Outside, the property is peaceful, and beautiful. A tranquil pond, which I would not swim in, personally, is right outside the front door along with a circle of seats around a firepit. The whole property is watched over by two gigantic and very affectionate dogs. They came to greet me promptly upon arrival, but aside from them and a pig I saw no other living thing while I was there. It was the definition of peaceful solitude. While I visited by myself, I believe a group as many as 8 could stay here. 10/10
