Chris and Beth met and started dating in Indianapolis in 2009 where both were working on their graduate education. During their first date, Chris announced his goal of developing a vineyard and making wine. As the relationship evolved, Chris worked toward the goal by researching viticulture, attending classes and investigating potential vineyard sites. In summer of 2011, Chris and Beth got married and dove into the wine industry when they purchased a majestic 62 acre property in the foothills of the coastal mountain range in Yamhill County. The property had been an old timber farm that was in bad shape. In 2012, a portion of the property was cleared and planted and the adventure had just begun! The vineyard was planted in 2012, with additional blocks planted each year since. In 2015 they produced our first lots of Pinor Noir and Sauvignon Blanc and have since expanded the wine selection to offer hand-crafted lots of Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Dolcetto, Lagrein and more. These days, Chris manages the day to day operations of the farm and wine production while Beth manages the business. Are you ready to get away to a beautiful vineyard? On our property you will get to camp with awesome views of vineyard, coastal range, and nearly no ambient light at night! Our property is 10-15 minutes west of Carlton, Oregon, nestled in the foothills of the coastal range. We own 62 acres, 17 of which are planted as vineyard. On the property we have our house, a winery, and a tasting room. Be prepared to drive up 2 miles of gravel road with a short but steep hill. You will likely need good skills backing up to get into position. I have 2 spots for RVs and a variety of locations for tent camping.  Please let me know which you will do so that I can plan appropriately.  There are times when I can only fit 1 RV/Trailer, so please include that in your request. We are on a working farm and our camping spots can be in the way of the tractor.  As a result, staying more than 1 night, especially Fri/Sat is tricky. Weeknights are far more flexible because our tasting room is closed and our parking area is available.   Also note, as a working farm and we have crews here nearly everyday to work in the vineyard.  Please be respectful of the crew. Update as we approach harvest: Fall is harvest time in the vineyard!  With this we will be limiting our camping, specifically RVs and trailers.  Normally we can fit 2, but I will be limiting it down to just 1 and only for 1 night at a time.  Please reach out before booking if you are camping in an RV or trailer. Also, the birds become a problem for us in fall.  To help repel them from the vineyard, we use a bird noise maker.  It goes through a series of bird calls to scare them away from the grapes.  I mention it because it is loud in some spots around the property and it goes off regularly from dawn to dusk.  It is usually on for about 6 weeks before harvest. About the winery:  Chris James Cellars is a family owned and operated vineyard and winery that produces unique and interesting wines in Carlton, Oregon. The vineyard was planted in 2012, with additional blocks planted each year since. In 2015 we produced our first lots of Pinor Noir and Sauvignon Blanc and have since expanded our wine selection to offer hand-crafted lots of Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Dolcetto, Lagrein and more. The tasting room is open Friday through Sunday, 12pm-5pm and by appointment.  Please visit our website to schedule a tasting (chrisjamescellars dot com).

Vineyard by day, Stars at night!
Beautiful and Quiet
A beautiful location with peaceful mornings and sunsets. We booked a tasting and then set up camp after the tasting room closed, the vineyard and the views were beautiful and we were able to enjoy the deck after closing. Very dog friendly as well.

Camera monitoring
Site was nice and quiet but located in front of Ring camera which felt a little weird and not very private.

Vineyard by day, Stars at night!
Perfect little spot
It was perfect for us. We parked our van right along the grape vines and watched the sunset over the valley below. Star gazing after. Private, secluded, peaceful. The port o potty could use servicing....

Vineyard by day, Stars at night!
We had a good experience and the site was clean and well maintained. We thought we’d have interaction with the hosts upon arrival or within the time we were there to be able to explain the property and how to interact at the site.

Wine with a view!
Great find for a quick overnighter with some wine tasting and beautiful views. We were greeted with a complementary glass of rosé and parked near the estate's main patio, which no longer had any patrons by the time we arrived at 4:30p. We spent some time walking the vineyards and soaking in the views, which offered many photogenic landscapes. We had a wine tasting the following day which was also great. The stars came out bright and loud, and the night was quiet and calm.
