Nestled on the estuary at Whalen Island, in the Three Capes scenic route of the Oregon coast, this cabin retreat offers peace, nature, and spectacular views from both inside and out. A few steps to the Whalen Island causeway, will take you to the beautiful Whalen Island Nature Trail. A loop trail just under two miles, winding through a forest of Sitka spruce, pine trees, huckleberry and wild rhododendron. Here and there the trail opens to stunning views of the estuary and sprawling sandy beach with ocean breakers just beyond.
The guest quarters consist of one bedroom with a queen bed, living area with sofa, kitchenette, and full bath.
I prefer that you bring your own bedding; however, bedding can be provided upon request. BBQ upon request also. At the waters edge there is a fire pit and chairs for some daytime wildlife watching or amazing evening star gazing, if the clouds cooperate. The grass ends at the estuary water. A kayaker and paddleboarder paradise!
With Cape Lookout a few minutes to the North and Cape Kiwanda four miles to the South, options for adventure abound. Only a short drive to Pacific City, you can languish on the beach, take a restorative beach walk, watch the sunset. You may choose to kayak or SUP (Stand Up Paddle) on the Nestucca River or on Sand Lake.
You'll find some of the best eating on the Oregon coast, including theiconic oceanfront Pelican Pub, a regional favorite with their award winning brewery, as well as the spectacular Headlands restaurant overlooking the beach and stunning Haystack Rock (known as Chief Kiwanda Rock to the locals). The Sportsman Pub offers what's said to be the best fresh, local caught
fish and chips, coming in daily from the world famous Pacific City Dory fleet. If you're willing to get up early enough, watching them launch off the beach then bring in their catch, is quite a spectacle! Numerous other eateries, a couple of wine bars, local "watering holes", coffee shops, even a candy and ice cream shop, Pacific City offers options for your vacationing pleasure.
