This 320 acre plot of land on which you can hike anywhere has been in our family since 1993. Large, graveled spot for tents or two vehicles with excellent view for miles and miles and night star gazing. Primitive outhouse. Juniper forest with sage brush... basically high desert vegetation. We only allow one reservation per night, although there is lodging (reserved) at the log home almost out of sight up above you. 320 acres to hike and roam. Mitchell is 10 miles away with well stocked grocery and feed store, restaurants, small brewery, and tire shop. We give directions fairly quickly. Road is wide, but steep at top. 4 wheel drive is recommended. Very close to the Painted Hills Unit of the John Day Fossil Beds National monument, Ochoco National Forest is seven miles. John Day River for swimming, rafting about 20 minutes. If you can book, it means you can drive on up with out contacting us.  As you drive in if at night, you will see a light on the outhouse. This graveled spot with outhouse for tents or two vehicles with excellent view for miles and miles and night star gazing. Up one mile, stop at cattle guard, ease forward. Ranch house is straight ahead on up hill; but you want to look to the right. Take that drive way to camp site. As you drive in if at night, you will see a light on the outhouse at the site itself also. To star gaze, cover light with a blue rag inside composting toilet.

Don't hesitate just book it!
Loved seeing the wildlife of the high desert! Saw a lizard and snake immediately. How cool. The view was incredible! Especially at night! Talk about stargazing!

I wasn’t able to visit Bonnie’s campsite due to a scheduling conflict on my end, but I look forward to visiting in the future. Bonnie was great to communicate with.

Fabulous, quiet, and solo!
What a beautiful spot and launch pad to explore the magnificence of Oregon! It’s quiet with plenty of room. The outhouse on site was a plus, but, sadly, the group there before us chose to use it as a trash can, dumping all their stuff instead of packing it out. I sent a note to the owner alerting her to the issue but never heard back and nothing was done about it during our 3 day/2night stay.

The perfect, private, comfortable camp site. Views were beautiful, bbq, pump water container, table, outhouse. Dry road, no problem at all. Thank you, Bonnie!

Totally worth the drive up!
We arrived after dark and enjoyed a bright display of stars against a black sky. In the morning we watched cows and calves graze by as they wandered up the hill. Bonnie has everything you need for a quiet retreat with a bird’s eye view of distant hills. You get a real sense of solitude. The climb was steep but our front wheel drive 21’ van did ok. Bonnie’s directions were spot on!

Oh my gosh! What a spectacular property!!! The directions were spot on, and the proximity to the Painted Hills was great. I can’t speak for the night sky views, because I fell asleep before the sun went down both nights. :-) I will 100% be back. Thank you, Bonnie!!!
