I was lucky enough to be the only camper so I had my choice of sites. Had 2 clear nights to watch the stars. If I'm able to book it again with no other campers it will be quite a thing. Chris was genuine when asked any questions and came to say hi the second day. You can tell he is truly interested in making people feel free to enjoy all that he offers!
Had a great time at the site. It was private and had lots of space + there was a toilet. The listing mentioned wood being provided which it was not, we just picked some up in a nearby town. One downside of the site is there is no easy access to the river, it's a drop at most points, but wasn't a deal breaker for us. The surrounding area is great and close to Southampton and Port Elgin for some beach time. It's really close to a major access to the river , roughly 2 minute drive so would be great for those kayaking the river
Chris was attentive and caring so we could have a good time there. Our two dogs enjoyed running, swimming and exploring his beautiful huge property, and it's their heaven. My husband and I had a great relaxing time with the beautiful starry sky and peaceful forest sounds.
If you have a kayak or a canoe, and love fishing, Chris's place is the best since the river is just there!
So! This trip was very interesting. If you are looking for typical ontario parks type sites- this is not for you. If you are the type of person who thrives in the outdoors and can make it work, book it!
Upon arrival chris was all smiles. His team led us to camp. You drive through a beautiful trail of tall flowers. One of my favorite scenes. Mixes of purple, yellow, white.
The site we got was not in the woods but rather the field. We carved out our own spot in the bush along the water, creating a site with a fire pit. We made it work! The wood supplied was a great bonus. We did not have a grill supplied- but that didn't matter as we have our own camp stove.
The saugeen is a great view. You cannot access it from your site unless you build a rope down, which we did. However there is a trail where you can slide your boat or tube down. It is steep!
There was a trailer toilet and water. I recommend bringing drinking water and toilet paper. It was clean which was a good bonus.
Best thing is dogs off leash. I LOVE this option so much and it makes it more enjoyable for my 2 pups.
We launched our boat down the trail and picked it up at access point 10, a good 3 hour kayak if you're just relaxing.
Overall, it was nice and it was different. Busy for the long weekend and better when a bit quieter.
Campers were happy, owner is gracious, sun was shining. Just be prepared and adaptable and it will be a great trip for you like it was for our family :)
Chris is an incredible host with a gorgeous piece of land. He is the epitome of living life to the fullest. Such a happy guy, willing to help out and make your stay memorable. We had an unforgettable weekend camping on his property at the secluded cedar forest site, swimming and canoeing on the Saugeen river. We rented a canoe from Chris, and he personally drove us up river to a launch point so we could canoe back to camp. We’ll definitely be recommending this to friends, and we’ll DEFINITELY be back. Thank you, Chris!!
