Winding Stair Campground sits at an elevation of 3,380 feet, next to the headwaters of the Nantahala River and is surrounded by national forest and undeveloped private land trusts. The stunning mountain views in a remote tucked-away setting make our farm a perfect getaway! Just a 15-minute scenic drive from Franklin in North Carolina, easily accessible off Hwy 64, our campground offers a chance to enjoy nature without being far away from the public amenities of a small but well-equipped town. A few features about our property: - Working farm: Campers are welcome to meet our Icelandic sheep and take a self-guided tour of our farm, along designated pathways. - Security: The campground and farm are fenced in on three sides with the river being the fourth boundary. Personal code to the entrance gate will be given at check in. - Bath House: The restored bathhouse is split into boys’ and girls’ sides. Each side has 2 private showers, 4 flushing toilets, sinks, hot water, and gas heat. - Community Pavilion: The Pavilion is a large 40x30 ft. open sided structure overlooking the Nantahala River. It has an ample fireplace, running water sink, counter space, couches, and table with benches. - Pack Room: Where the adventure begins! A cozy hub where all guests check-in, get local information, view maps, and grab some local seasonal groceries. Also available to all campers are washing sinks with hot water, toaster oven and microwave. - Communication: Or rather, lack thereof! There's no cell service on the property so it's a great time to get away from it all. There is limited Wi-Fi available near the Pack Room and an emergency landline available. - Charging: Traveling in an electric vehicle? Recharge for free at our dedicated EV 50amp outlet when you stay at any of our sites. First come, first served. Want to know more about the history of the property? Group Lane
What a gem!
First off, the property is amazing! The property gave us an opportunity to make great family memories. Group Lane is very unique with the long row of full hook up sites, the shaded area for gathering, the prep table was used the entire time, and your fire pits are the best I've ever seen. Everyone was impressed with the clean bathrooms, I noticed all the little extra's available to us in the bathrooms too. We laid claim to the pavilion Saturday, we appreciated the workmanship of the beams, the comfortable seating, & dinner table. The sink, boiler, prep table & grill came in handy for us to make our Shrimp Boil. We even set up a projector at the pavilion to watch some college football. Your campground and farming area was well manicured and shows pride of ownership. The Mill was just amazing, it was a great history lesson for us all, especially the younger kiddos. We will be back!

Glass House (Unique Structure)
Winding Stair Farm exceeded all expectations!!! Simply amazing experience from arrival to departure. Everything is well thought out down to Jeni's Ice Cream which is available at the camp store. I mean who does that! Already at work for a return trip, would highly recommend this location. Robyn was very responsive and information provided was spot on accurate.

Brass Camp (Tent site)
Great campground. The brass camp area is a little more secluded yet close to the bathhouse and pack room. The grounds are fantastic for just a stroll through and the whole area is clean and well maintained. Close to town and the national forest should you need anything not found at the camp.

Group Lane
Privacy, and all the extras too.
Such a gem. Right off the main road and not more than 15 from the main highway - it’s easy to get to. We rented out “group lane” so we would have a nice big space for our family trip of 3 adults and 3 kids. It has power hookups and an awesome picnic table area with string lights and is right below the bathhouse. It’s the most organized {and cleanest} place we have camped! It’s got the privacy you want, but with the extras that make camping even easier- full bathhouse and showers with a shop in case you forgot anything. Pavilion and water access; farm animals to explore on property was a treat for our toddler too. The owner is so wonderful and even gave us a tour of the property and the mill on site with a little history of it all. Just a wonderful experience here and we will def be back!!
