Winding Stair Campground sits at an elevation of 3,380 feet, next to the headwaters of the Nantahala River and is surrounded by national forest and undeveloped private land trusts. The stunning mountain views in a remote tucked-away setting make our farm a perfect getaway! Just a 15-minute scenic drive from Franklin in North Carolina, easily accessible off Hwy 64, our campground offers a chance to enjoy nature without being far away from the public amenities of a small but well-equipped town. A few features about our property: - Working farm: Campers are welcome to meet our Icelandic sheep and take a self-guided tour of our farm, along designated pathways. - Security: The campground and farm are fenced in on three sides with the river being the fourth boundary. Personal code to the entrance gate will be given at check in. - Bath House: The restored bathhouse is split into boys’ and girls’ sides. Each side has 2 private showers, 4 flushing toilets, sinks, hot water, and gas heat. - Community Pavilion: The Pavilion is a large 40x30 ft. open sided structure overlooking the Nantahala River. It has an ample fireplace, running water sink, counter space, couches, and table with benches. - Pack Room: Where the adventure begins! A cozy hub where all guests check-in, get local information, view maps, and grab some local seasonal groceries. Also available to all campers are washing sinks with hot water, toaster oven and microwave. - Communication: Or rather, lack thereof! There's no cell service on the property so it's a great time to get away from it all. There is limited Wi-Fi available near the Pack Room and an emergency landline available. - Charging: Traveling in an electric vehicle? Recharge for free at our dedicated EV 50amp outlet when you stay at any of our sites. First come, first served. Want to know more about the history of the property? Brass Camp (Tent site)
Peaceful campsite.
One of my favorite campsites, campground. It is well maintained and loaded with amenities. The pavilion, camp store and bathhouse exceeded our expectations. Our family enjoyed lounging by the stream and the serenity of the property. We stayed at Brass Camp and it was amazing. The secluded site is fairly level and boasts beautiful partial views of surrounding mountains. It’s the most elevated campsite, but you can still hear the stream below. It was a short walk to the bathhouse and pack room (camp store). There is also WiFi at the pack room. The staff is courteous and friendly. The overall vibe of the campground is peaceful and relaxing. We definitely hope to return.

Fern Gulley (Riverside Canvas Tent)
Camping Bliss
Winding Stair Farm is an amazing experience for camping. You can tour the active Farm, the Grist Mill, and meet some very wonderful owners and hosts. They have a self-service honor System Camp store. Our campsite was FernGully which is right on the Nantahala river in a luxurious tent with king bed and electricity. We had talked about seeing some of the sites in Franklin but decided just to enjoy our stay on the farm. Also the Pavilion is the nicest one anywhere, Timber and Stone with a huge fireplace, comfy furniture, electricity, and a dish washing, cooking and grilling station with hot water. The bath houses are immaculately clean with hot showers. They recycle everything and have a compost pile for your food scraps. We ate an apple or two off some of the trees, and enjoyed watching a lot of farm animals. This place is enchanting

Brass Camp (Tent site)
I really enjoyed my experience camping at the Brass Camp location at Winding Stair. It was very private, quiet and peaceful. The bathhouse was clean and I enjoyed a hot shower every morning. The grounds themselves are beautiful, with a lovely stream running through them. Everyone I met who works the farm was friendly and helpful. I would definitely return.

Group Lane
What a gem!
First off, the property is amazing! The property gave us an opportunity to make great family memories. Group Lane is very unique with the long row of full hook up sites, the shaded area for gathering, the prep table was used the entire time, and your fire pits are the best I've ever seen. Everyone was impressed with the clean bathrooms, I noticed all the little extra's available to us in the bathrooms too. We laid claim to the pavilion Saturday, we appreciated the workmanship of the beams, the comfortable seating, & dinner table. The sink, boiler, prep table & grill came in handy for us to make our Shrimp Boil. We even set up a projector at the pavilion to watch some college football. Your campground and farming area was well manicured and shows pride of ownership. The Mill was just amazing, it was a great history lesson for us all, especially the younger kiddos. We will be back!

Glass House (Unique Structure)
Winding Stair Farm exceeded all expectations!!! Simply amazing experience from arrival to departure. Everything is well thought out down to Jeni's Ice Cream which is available at the camp store. I mean who does that! Already at work for a return trip, would highly recommend this location. Robyn was very responsive and information provided was spot on accurate.
