Wild Mountain Way is a bit of a conundrum. It's close to civilisation, but far from it. I found this little spot about four years ago and have been trying to tread gently, while making a nest in these stunning mountains. While some provisions are a given... Firewood, Spring Water, WiFi, Power for phone charging etc. You are still in a 5000 acre bowl and I have the last property in the holler. It is Quiet up here. There are 3 pitches, MOST require AWD/4WD. All of the sites are about 300' from one another... it's a moderately steep but brisk hike. Fireside is the most social spot as it has the view and a big firepit with log slab seating and festoon lamps depending on the weather... All power up here is off grid. There is an occupied airstream about 100 feet away, but the chap in there is very quiet and cival. You are welcome to free camp anywhere on the land if you'd like more seclusion. Creakside is tucked away in a sheltered ravine with a foot bridge leading the way to a private nook. Nearside is well... Near! It's the best option if you have a 2WD car. It's near to the parking, but also near (100'+) to the cabin I'm building. There is no construction noise when guests are here. If you don't have an off road vehicle and let me know when you think you'll arrive, I'll do my best to be here and load anything heavy into my farm truck or quad bike... We can get you settled into any of the spots pretty easily and there are usually folk here, on site should you need any support day or night.

We had a great relaxing time at Henry’s campsite. Henry is super kind, quick to respond, and more than willing to help with any issue you may have. Would definitely stay again.

Nearside
Once I found the place (it's all spread out and just a bit hidden, I later found signs) I really enjoyed it. I didn't meet Henry but there were another locals that were super friendly, plus their dog Max was hanging out with me, which was nice and helped me feel more safe! The restroom turned out to be a little far, but it is primitive camping after all.

Nearside
I most definitely enjoyed my stay at Nearside. Max was the bestest camp host. He greeted me warmly on arrival, escorted me to the outhouse, and stayed at my campsite at night. I will have to come back just to see him again. I like the campsite names. If I lived in the house there, I’d have to call it Myside (like the book, My Side of the Mountain). The location was conveniently within 30 minutes of UNC Asheville where my kid is attending. I expect I’ll be back again in the next couple of years since I prefer to spend the night when I have to drive across the state to see him. Thanks for hosting me, Henry.

Creekside
We loved the Creekside tent camping spot! Fire pit hidden amongst the trees was so dreamy. Henry was delightful, the land was beautiful, and Max the dog hung out with us for a couple hours while we settled in. Would absolutely stay here again!

Creekside
Henry is a fantastic host. Incredibly warm and welcoming and was flexible when our group ended up being larger than we originally thought. Creekside is a private little getaway which can fit 2, maybe 3, tents and has a private fire ring by the creek. Henry also allowed us to use Fireside for our group which has the communal fire ring, string lights and view of the mountains. This was a perfect spot to hang out and enjoy a fire. There is poison ivy around though so take necessary precautions. The road up the hill was steep, but those of us with 4WD/AWD had no problems. Overall a great night on Henry's property!
