The Rocky Knoll sits on about two acres of wooded land on a knoll with a breathtaking view of the mountains. Bring your family, pet and your tent to enjoy this beautiful secluded campsite which is conveniently located to Hanging Rock State, Pilot Mountain State Park, Belews Lake and Winston-Salem. This land has been in the family for many, many years. We just love the solitude on the Rocky Knoll and wanted to share it's beauty with others who enjoy nature. The Rocky Knoll is a beautiful, secluded little haven to sit and enjoy a magnificent mountain view. Gather around with your family for a nice evening fire in the provided fire pit. Pitch a tent on our 12 x 12 tent mound and enjoy nights in the country. Or bring your RV with a maximum length of 22 ft. Two picnic tables are provided for your outdoor dining. We do not have electricity or running water at this time. But, we do offer what we call the “Poop Shed” as a primitive toilet. The Rocky Knoll is conveniently located 7 minutes away from Walnut Cove, 20 minutes away from Winston-Salem and about 25 minutes away from Hanging Rock, Pilot Mountain and Belews Lake. There is a Frisby Golf course 9 minutes away too. Pets are allowed but please keep on a leash and clean up after them.. We do not live on the property but we are about 5 minutes away in case you need anything.

The Rocky Knoll
Very nice campsite, but......
For being in a populated rural area the Rocky Knoll feels surprisingly remote. The site is roomy and easily accessible and the great view of The Sauratown Mountain range is unmarred by any visible buildings or roads. Even at night no lights are seen across the vista. There is the occasional sound of a dog or voices from down in the hollow below the knoll. But at night it is perfectly quiet. Except for, as a few other campers have mentioned, the chance for gunfire. Both nights we spent were interupted by barrages of gun shots. from the hollow. The first night it was relatively brief, though still jarring. On Friday night it started up at 10:30 pm, after we had been asleep for an hour. And it was coming from 2 different locations, one on either side of the knoll. It went on for quite a while, with pauses while reloading or switching firearms. We never felt threatened or unsafe. We knew it was just target shooting, which usually doesn't last too long. But still not relaxing. Not wishing to discourage anyone from camping here, as we did enjoy our stay, but just giving a heads up so you can be prepared. And after it stopped, it was perfectly quiet up there. As temps were in the 90's, we did not have a campfire, but the host does leave some non-potable water to use for dousing a fire before leaving the campsite or for cleaning the poop shed bucket. The host was also easily reachable and accommodating.

Gem in the wood with a view!
Secluded and peaceful. We were struck by the breathtaking view that just got better and better as the sun set and the moon rose! Lois and Mike take care of the area and leave a nice stack of firewood and jugs of water for the campers.

The Rocky Knoll
This spot was great for us as we had two new campers with us! The spot was private but super close to Hanging Rock so we could have the best of both worlds! The privy was also SUPER nice, and having a few little solar lights about the camp was helpful too! It was ALSO helpful that the dirt road made a nice round about the camp site so we didn't have to worry about backing out when we left. Would super recommend! (Also not too far from a small store if you need emergency supplies!)
