Site 2 - Off grid Eco Camp at Cold Mountain
Not great mix of primitive & modern
I would say this camp has a lot of the down sides of both primitive and modern camping and not a ton of positives to balance. It had neighborhood sounds of vehicles, dogs and power equipment and the campsites weren't that private. It was also primitive in the sense that the outhouse was only a covered hole level with the floor and the paths even just to the outhouse made me wish I was wearing my hiking shoes. I think it would've been better to go with something closer to Waynesville (this was actually 20-30min away, in Canton) or something truly back-country rather than this in between.

Off grid Eco Camp at Cold Mountain
For our stay at Off Grid Eco Camp, my husband and I opted to set up camp at a private site nestled into the edge of the forest. The camping plot was well-maintained, and came equipped with a small fire-ring. The site was the perfect size to set up our two-person tent and enjoy some peace and quiet. The grounds have walking trails that meander throughout the property. Small structures, like a genuine, rustic cabin and a blacksmith’s forge could be found. There was also a meditation dojo perched upon an incline with lovely, expansive view of the distant mountains. Chickens amble around the property, and all the other beautiful sights, scents, and warbling bird calls that you’d expect in Blue Ridge territory can be enjoyed. The Blue Ridge Parkway and all its wonders are quickly accessed from this Hipcamp-- making this spot a nice, low-key, base-camp for your local, outdoor adventures. Thanks for your hospitality Spencer! We enjoyed our visit.

Off grid Eco Camp at Cold Mountain
Dissapointed
I really didn't want to give this a bad review because Spencer and his wife were very nice and were very accommodating since I had to change the dates of my trip due to bad weather. However, I do want other campers to be aware of the downside to camping here. I don't know where they got the picture used to describe this place. There is no privacy at all. There are houses above and below and to the side. Parking is strange and very u level (almost all my gear fell out when I opened my hatch). I saw 5 out of 6 campsites. Only 1 had a decent fire ring ( something you kind of need on cold mountain). Unfortunately that campsite was next to a wooden shelter filled with unfinished projects and trash. I found a mysterious Styrofoam box covered in ducttape next to the site by the creek. Most of the sites seemed too small for more than 1 small tent. Two of them were level. The larger one (the one I opted for) had a back yard feel complete with a trampoline and large unused logs for a fire ring. Granted, it did have a tripod but I was scared to get a big fire going since it was undeveloped and didn't seem safe. Was awakened by the sounds of a drum solo that went on for 30/40 mins. Not what I expected at 9am. Went to use the outhouse but found it strange and lots of cobwebs. After wandering around trying to scope out the place I noticed a lot of old tires on the path to the other sites. There was also trash( plastic silverware and tinfoil). Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Creek side camping
We stayed at sight 6 and it made for a great hammock and tent site with a creek right there to soothe you to sleep

Awesome campsite!
Not what I expected at all, in a good way! The campsite was very private and secluded, and felt like I was in the woods camping. Nice drinking water too. There is also an outhouse and portapotty, so I didn't even need to bring my own tp! Very cute place.
