Jungle Island
Nestled along the edge of a stunning river, this campsite was a true slice of paradise. The river’s gentle flow, punctuated by occasional waterfalls, provided a constant, soothing soundtrack to our stay. Towering fall trees surrounded us in vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows, adding to the beauty and creating a warm, cozy atmosphere. It felt completely secluded, like we’d been transported deep into an untouched forest, far from civilization. The setting was pristine and quiet, with just the sounds of nature and the rushing river to lull us to sleep each night. If you’re looking for a spot to unplug and fully immerse yourself in the beauty of the season, this campsite is unbeatable. But CAVEAT: The campsite is a bit of a journey to get to. I'm an avid backpacker and the hill and rugged terrain getting down to the river were challenging. It's definitely not a "car camping" site so pack a light backpack. To get to the site you need to use the ropes Ryan installed so it's best to have at least one free hand. Still absolutely worth the journey, but good to know ahead of time (I would have packed very differently).

Little gem. Shhh.
Great campsite. Very interesting location. Good view for travelers that needddddd a view. We also seen the Northern lights sooo bright. It very neat. Also enjoyed being woken by the roosters. Must be a few farms nearby so you hear them competing for the best alarm. Host was quick to accommodate me as my desicision was late in the day. Certainly a hidden gem.

Hope for safety and healing
We were not able to stay at Mountain Paradise because of the catastrophic hurricane that devastated the region. Ryan was very friendly and responsive when I initially made the reservation. I have reached out but have not heard back from him. I know so many people are cut off from communication so I am writing this “review” hoping that Ryan is OK. It’s so sad what as happened to this beautiful region and I’m so sorry for everyone.

Jungle Island
Beautiful land - unable to use
Seemed like a wonderful spot, wasn’t able to use it which was disappointing. I have a dog that doesn’t do well with other dogs without proper introduction, which is why I booked the most private site. Upon arrival, two (seemingly) very sweet dogs were loose at the entry of the site without a person, so I could not stay. The camp host did respond that the dogs could be put up but it would’ve been several hours after initial arrival. Would only recommend if you have social pups or none.

Jungle Island
Just Do It!
My wife and I wanted seclusion, hiking, primitive, and near water. We chose the Jungle Island spot at Mountain Paradise. This place did not disappoint. It offers way more than the description. Next to beautiful Walnut Creek (which eventually flows into the French Broad River), it was absolutely the best camping site we have ever used. Several small waterfalls and coves of cool mountain water were within skipping distance. The entire 3 days we were there, we never saw another human being. We were fortunate enough to see a small heard of whitetail deer crossing the creek just above our site, and the sounds of nature throughout the day and night made it a magical trip. The hike down to our site was easy enough to carry our few belongings...a very steep trail to say the least. The hike out and up to the parking area is not for those who are out of shape, and yes, we did need to stop and rest a couple times. For this particular site minimal gear and supplies are highly recommended. When we do go back (and we will definitely be doing so), we are sure to request this spot. As for the host, Ryan, his communication was top notch and very timely. We never even saw him in person, but then, we didn't need to. The directions and information he provided through Hipcamp was all we needed. He did assure us he would be available if necessary. We wanted exactly what we got...to get away from it all. This is definitely the place to go to lose your mind and find your soul!
