Backwoods Hideaway

Alexander, Buncombe, North Carolina
Hosted by Felicia H.
This land has been in the Edwards family for three generations. My grandmother inherited the land when her father passed away, and has let her children live on and develop some of the land. The area around the site is mainly farm land. There are no major roadways in the area, but there is some light traffic that can be heard. There is a pretty decent sized wooded area behind the campsite that you can explore, but we do have neighbors. We are located between Weaverville and Asheville. They are both about a 10 to 15 minute drive from where we are. That means you have close access to the River Arts District, the Biltmore House, and two shopping malls. We are also fairly close to the French Broad River if you want to take a dip or go kayaking. The roads around the area are also good for biking if you would like. We get the occasional dear that come through. We have plenty of squirrels and birds. Bears have never been spotted in this area, but that's not to say there isn't any. We have feral cats that we take care of. There are a few that like to be petted, but the majority would rather be left alone. Our dog is friendly once he knows you're not trying to hurt him or his family. The driveway our place is a little rough, so cars that sit low to the ground won't make it. You don't need an SUV to drive it, just a car that has some ground clearance. The camping site is right behind out home, so you will likely see us. We visit with the dog every morning and afternoon, and we feed the cats at the same time. During the warmer times of the years, you will likely see us doing work outside, and my dad does have a garage that he works in. He only works in the garage during the day, so there won't be any disturbances at night. This is a very primitive campsite, so make sure you are ready to rough it. We can provide you with a drop cord if you need a power source. We will typically have firewood that you can use for a fire, and we will have some chairs you can sit in. Other than that, you will need to make sure you have everything you need. If you find that you need something, feel free to knock on the door or give us a call and we will do our best to help you out.
