Travel back in time as you enter our enchanted cabin, ‘Tha Bunkhouse’. A shop we have painstakingly converted to a cabin. You will find our 1 room cabin with all the charm of the late 1800s with a few added modern touches. The cabin is equipped with 2 full size iron beds, 2 large rocking chairs, a handmade farmhouse table, and wood burning stove. There is a fire pit with seating right outside in front of the porch. There is a 1/2 bath inside the cabin and an outdoor shower available all year round. This shower is equipped with a propane tankless water heater. Walkerhaven Homestead is a 40 acre farm, nestled in the Foothills of North Carolina, in the heart of the Yadkin Valley wine country. You will always find our gentle giants, our beloved Belgian draft horses here. We use our draft horses to plow & cultivate our garden, mow our hay & give wagon rides at the Alpha & Omega Corn Maze in the Fall. During your stay, we would be happy to give you the opportunity to interact with our draft horses. Just let us know & we may be able to harness a team. You may also find chickens, cows, or pigs during the year. Our farm is also home to our 4 dogs and 1 trusty barn cat. You are welcome to walk the farm and explore the creek. You may need boots! We are in the perfect location for a fun filled stay. There are numerous wineries in a 10 mile radius! While here, visit our Amish community and be sure to stop at Shiloh General Store and Wholesome Country Creamery minutes away. We are a 20 mile drive to the campus of Wilkes Community College where Merle Fest is held every year in April. The North Wilkesboro Speedway is a 15 mile drive. The NASCAR All-Star race is there in May 2024. Is hiking or kayaking for you? Check out Stone Mountain State Park in Roaring Gap NC or New River Outfitters in Crumpler, NC. Relax on the front porch with a cup of coffee, sit around the fire pit watching the stars, or sit by the wood stove with a good book. During cool weather stays, the cabin is heated with the wood stove. The wood box is always full. Before going to sleep, we recommend you place a log in the wood stove and turn down the damper. There is always extra wood behind the shower. During warm weather stays, open the windows or you may use a fan that is provided. There is one outlet in the cabin for charging phones, etc. We have added a Keurig to the cabin, too. There is one lamp for lightening. We also provide oil lamps, & battery operated lights. There are battery operated light switches in the cabin. The sink in the bathroom- when the wash basin fills, just throw the water outside. Outside shower: 1. Turn water on at the blue spigot next to the barn. This will turn on the shower 2. Turn on propane by turning the knob on top of the tank 3. Turn switch on under hot water heater 4. Be sure to turn off the water when you are done. WiFi- currently the WiFi works best on the front porch A cooler is provided with water and soft drinks and a bag of ice. There is a dorm style refrigerator in the barn for guests to use, if need be. Please throw trash away in large black trash can and secure the lid on. You may hear our horses during the night. :) Extra supplies are under the bed in the totes. Paper plates, napkins, plastic cutlery, batteries, citronella candles We would love for you to sign our guest book!!
