The Upper Shire Private Campsites in the Hudson Valley are on a gorgeous hill with a small pond surrounded by 22 acres of an old horse ranch. It is located in Columbia County near the Massachusetts and New York border. There are currently 5 unique camping areas located here. Each one is special due to its location on the hill. Check out our map and enjoy our spacious yet secluded campsites and our new off-grid double shower shack with hot and cold water on demand. This place has a relaxed atmosphere and is located near Catamount Ski Resort, Bash Bish Falls, Taconic State Park, Hudson NY, and Great Barrington, MA. If you plan on bringing a pet please be sure to add that fee to your booking under "extras" ($25) If you have additional guest(s) that would like to join you that fee is ($25 a night per person) and you will need to message us about how to arrange that. We have extra easy pop-up two-person tents available to rent ($15 for two nights) you can also find that option under "extras" along with bundles of firewood ($15)

Pondside Meadow

Joanna and Barb could not have been more wonderful hosts. They were incredibly gracious, kind and went out of their way to help us with a car troubles in a pinch. We can’t wait to come back to the upper shire campground soon. What a beautiful part of the world!

Off Grid A-Frame Cabin by The Pond

We had a great weekend stay at the off-grid A-frame by the pond! The setting was lovely and peaceful. Our kids and dog enjoyed playing in the open space, and we enjoyed relaxing by the fire pit! We took a little canoe out on the pond and did some fishing, we went hiking, and visited the nearby cidery. Joanna was communicative, responsive, and friendly! The cabin was cozy... thankful for the propane heater as the temperature dipped below 30 degrees at night. Five stars, highly recommend. We will be back!

Upper Shire Meadow

We loved tent camping here! Joanna’s directions made it easy to find and she was there to greet us upon arrival. The site was clean and quiet 🥰. Our two pups also had a blast 🐾 We loved that the site is dog-friendly. Joanna checked up on us throughout and gave great recommendations. Be sure to check out the farmers market. Great selection of produce, meats and other local vendors. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and we will be back!

We loved camping on the Upper Shire! Jo was an amazing host, and set up the campsite perfectly for us. We’ve never been to a campsite as clean and beautiful as this one! We truly loved our stay and our host!! #bristol

1987 Airstream at Tin Can Valley

The property is so beautiful and so well maintained. Joanna was an excellent host and had great recommendations for things to do as a group with our baby and our dog! I also appreciated how Ed easy it was to find our site.
