About the TREEHOUSE
Escape to the wilderness jungle of Inner Pocket, located on the most easterly point of Australia, where the ancient gondwana jungles and giant old forests surround the Treehouse in a spectacular wilderness and nature-based experience on a mountain top. It will transport you to a world of awe and serenity. With panoramic views of the surrounding valley, you'll feel like you're on top of the world.
Hike through the jungle and ancient forests. You will be transported on a journey through some of the most pristine and untouched wilderness in the country. For the more adventurous ou'll have the opportunity to see rare and exotic plants, animals, and learn about the unique ecology of the area.
You can take a dip in the crystal-clear mountain streams, or simply relax and soak in the ocean and valley views.
Inner Pocket is located just a short drive from the popular destination of Byron Bay, making it the perfect addition to any itinerary. Whether you're an experienced hiker or just looking for a peaceful nature escape, this experience is perfect for anyone looking to reconnect with nature.
You need an appropriate 4 x4 as the road is steep and rough. Driver experience is essential If you don't have a suitable 4x4, get picked up by arrangement in our complimentary fab all-terrain vehicle from the car park and; pick up point at the bottom of the mountain and experience a real jungle Safari to the top of the mountain. The road is rough and steep in parts so you really need a capable 4 x 4.
The Treehouse is a generic name given to our studio cabana. It is a single LARGE room. Friends and volunteers who visited coined the name after staying here and so, in the end, the name stuck!
Kinabalu is managed as a Private Conservation Park in whose main aim is to conserve, repair & regenerate our Gondwana rainforests.
Come lend a hand if you have a green thumb! If you like plant a tree or two. We have many seedlings on hand. :)
I repeat. A 4WD vehicle is required for driving the 3km mountain giant forest drive to reach the Kinabalu. This service is provided for you by arrangement within reasonable hours so that when you arrive at Kinabalu, all lifts arriving to and final departure from the pickup point comes at no extra cost to you. This is included. A modest FEE WILL BE CHARGED for pickups from Byron Bay, or airport ($75).
The Treehouse is an absolute delight. When I'm not writing; I don't have visitors or volunteers it is made available for you so is only available when unoccupied by family, friends or volunteers.
This is the ultimate cosy writer's studio or ‘cabana’. Nestled in the trees it overlooks the virgin jungle at the end of a valley to gaze onwards looking to the vast ocean.
It's a dream!
Please note you are in the middle of wild nature here so be prepared for lots of wild creatures. They are a part of the experience. Ie insects, mice, possums, wallabies and snakes etc. we do our best but we are in their turf and some folk are not used to them.

We provide a generous breakfast choice that includes oats cereal, milk, fresh ground coffee, an assortment of teas, and crackers, not to mention a selection of fresh fruit. You will not starve!
Bring all other meals and your favourite treats!
It also has the added luxury of Fast wireless internet, a terrific 5-channel audio system, and Foxtel Satelite TV.
THE PROPERTY
Surrounded by a Rainforest Sanctuary & Nature Reserve, you have absolute privacy and one of the most extraordinary locations of the area and in Australia. Listed as in the top twenty nature-based treehouse experiences, this is a (nature) lovers retreat. Anyone who loves pristine walks into old-growth forest or swimming in the sparkling secluded waterfalls this is it.
Please bear in mind that being off the grid, building this Treehouse has been a challenge due to its location and difficult access. As a result of much labour, you get one of the most extraordinary locations in Australia. It has been quite an achievement to build this over the last 3 years . . now focused on the garden - still plenty to do.
The area is loved for its lush green growth, abundant water with its many waterfalls, and picturesque scenery. Not to mention the area’s fabulous beaches. Please take note that we are in the middle of a mountain forest jungle. All care is taken however by agreeing to stay you accept full responsibility of your own health and safety.
This is, in legal terms. A primitive campground. Enter at your own risk!
Inner Pocket Nature Sanctuary is filled with the most extraordinary array of birds, animals & insects. This is in the middle of virgin wild nature. For some, this could be frightening. So be prepared. Bring walking shoes, insect repellent, a torch & a raincoat and a torch. You never know!
Please note that the structure is best described as a TREEHOUSE and not a normal conventional habitable dwelling. In this way you get a genuine wilderness experience.
Be aware, I repeat, that because it is an unconventional building it is to be assumed to be, in legal terms, a 'primitive camping site' , Glamping cabin or treehouse as it has no rails ‘and concrete pathways.

Robin was a wonderful host, incredibly attentive and always happy to lend a hand. The place was very thoughtfully prepared with fruit, fresh OJ, milk and eggs amongst other essentials. An incredibly serene few days! Will definitely be back. Thank you!
