Privileged to be on Thunghutti/Dungutti Country, Ellerslie Farm is situated on the Macleay River, 15 minutes from Kempsey, (home of Akubra hats and the Slim Dusty Center) and 35 minutes from the beaches of Crescent Head. An ex-dairy farm, Ellerslie Farm has been in our family for over 150 years and is now run as a beef and crop production. This place is special to us and we want to share it with you. Pass the old cottage and sheds and drive down to the grassy river flats to our camping grounds right on the river. Plenty of casuarina and banksia trees for shade, the flat is long and faces west for the most beautiful sunsets. Watch the abundant bird life, go fishing or canoeing and you might even get a visit from a resident cow or 2. Best of all...just relax. (Not suitable in extreme wet weather as this are of the river floods.)Follow directions, through the farm and down the lane down to the river flats (grass over river rock), watch out for hidden holes. Pick your favourite spot and set up camp. There are smaller trees along the riverbank and a few larger trees back from the river for shade. Check out the river - its shallow by the riverbank and deepens as it goes out. Have a fish, swim or launch your canoe. Lots of bird life - wood ducks, wrens, williwagtails etc and you might see a platypus if you are really lucky. Don't be alarmed if a cow comes to visit, a stray or 2 may pass by from time to time. We aim to leave you in peace at the river but remember, this is a working farm so you may hear us moving cattle or ploughing paddocks or making hay. You are welcome to watch or come and chat to us about farming if you like. Dogs are welcome but must be under the control of their owners at all times - the welfare of our and our neighbours' cows is important.

Winter camping

We had a beautiful two night stay at Daisy's flat, hanging out around the campfire, toasting marshmallows and enjoying the outlook. Leanne had arranged for some firewood to be there on our arrival and the fire was even set up ready to light. Our kids loved exploring the river banks, and the clear weather made for perfect star gazing.
