Learn more about this land: Lush high desert river oasis nestled in a fertile valley in the Carson National Forest right between the fiery expanse of Taos and the rolling colorful formations of Abiquiu. Peaceful and private 3 acres right by the river at the edge of a little quaint town called La Madera (145 people, no shops)- just 6 miles to the healing mineral Hot Springs of Ojo Caliente, a place of emergence or rebirth as known to the local Natives. Right by the river, held by a ridge (that makes for amazing sunset hikes), I have a 16ft Yurt Canvas set up with furnishings (desk, couch, wash stand) and a wooden Queen Bed with down bedding. This site can only be reached by foot across the river via stumps- a car can be parked near by.. approx. 50ft. I also have a Vintage Camper that can be heated, has a kitchen, electricity and plenty of outdoor furniture with a fire pit and serene mountain views. As well as a monastic and very grounding Ensuite Bedroom, or a simple campsite if you want to bring your own camper or tent. All facilities have access to a guest bathroom inside the main house. I offer dog sitting while you soak at Ojo, healing modalities that you'll find in the Extras section, and my dear neighbor Jackie takes appointments for massages with homemade essential oils. +++ 6 miles to Ojo Caliente Hot Springs. There you will find the best restaurant in the area, with locally/organically farmed produce. The land is naturally and beautifully wild- it is not a manicured campsite. The dirt rd down to the property is best suited for higher clearance vehicles, but is manageable for city cars. With land by the river comes the mosquitos- June to August only. They are predominantly active during sunrise and sunset; long loose fitting clothes and a repellent work great. Waterhole, Waterfall and climbing sites near by, as well as Plaza Blanca, Abiquiu, Ghost Ranch and the Taos Gorge are 30 mins drive away. *No cell service in the greater area. WiFi reaches around the house/deck and allows for WiFi Calling: that’s a setting in your phone that enables phone calls & texts beside usual internet access.

River Yurt Oasis by Ojo Hot Springs

Cozy Hidden Gem

What a great space. So peaceful and relaxing. Felt very private, loved hearing the creak run all night and the sounds of all the different birds. Bed was very comfortable and we slept great. There is a great little hike just above the space that has amazing views. Susanne, was incredibly sweet and accommodating, we’ll look forward to going back.

River Yurt Oasis by Ojo Hot Springs

We had such a relaxing, fun, restorative time at Susanne's yurt! She's my favorite kind of host: invested in making sure you have what you need and want while also completely respecting the need for space. The yurt felt very secluded and for us, it was exactly what we signed up for: no frills shelter (yurt with comfortable bed) and outside space to setup a camp space (kitchen and eating area). The camp setting was beautiful right next to the creek and has lots of options for a variety of day trips (short drive) or hikes (right from the yurt)

River Yurt Oasis by Ojo Hot Springs

Amazing if you’re prepared

Site was amazing and private enough. Still in a very rural community so some associated noises. Loved the sounds of peacocks though. We went at the end of May, the river crossing wasn’t available and had quite the hill to access to get in. My kids LOVED this hill though so that crosses out that negative. Spring melt had the river running strong but still felt safe with a 2 and 6 year old to dip their feet in but not swim. Got very cold at night so just be prepared, bedding has plenty of blankets. We used the trampoline once. My suggestion is to bring a lugggable loo to have at the site for a bathroom. Going to the main house would not have worked for us and would have been in a crappy situation if not for it. Also, anytime I have to clean out a fire pit so we can be safe in high winds the place gets a less than perfect. Would suggest for those that feel comfortable accessing it. Road is not a problem at all, very easy in with our Highlander

Peaceful Stay.

Tent camping was great here. The land, space and site was beautiful. Host was exceptional, she gave me some ideas on sites to visit in the area in a detailed email. She's warm and welcoming but gives you space. I'd definitely recommend. The land an area are wet because of the river so Bring mosquito repellent!
