Set above the historic town of Madrid N.M. is Waldo Mesa, the location of past mining operations and stunning Vista's.The campsite is 0.9 miles off highway 14 in the historic town of Madrid and up to the mesa. Site 1 can accommodate RV's and tall setups as well as tents. The hill going to the site is short, approx. 0.2 ml. Its dirt and rock and a little steep but everything from bikes, motorcycles, sedans and buses can easily navagate without bottoming out, just take it slow. It has beautiful mesa views with plenty of privacy and nice outhouse within 50 yards. Madrid and sister village, Cerrillos are loaded with places to explore on foot or by other means. Both towns are very rich in history, from past ocean existance to Native American civilizations, silver and gold mining to booming wartime coalmining industries, to ghost towns.

Off leash. I have 2 rescues, 1 male lab, and 1 female pit/boxer mix. My girl has a very unique personality and is obsessed with reflections, lights, balls and licking your face off. I've found that introducing her to campers upon arrival is crucial. Once she knows, I know you're there, she won't bark at you. She is beyond sweet and gets along well with other dogs! My boy is pretty much lìķe a normal dog!

Kim's campsite offers a peaceful retreat with stunning views from the top of a mesa. While most campers rave about the beautiful sunsets and welcoming atmosphere, it's important to note that the road up can be challenging, and some visitors have had trouble navigating it. The campsite is unique with an artistic flair, particularly near the nearby cemetery, which some find charming and others find unsettling. Overall, Kim is praised for her hospitality, and the area is appreciated for its solitude and natural beauty.

The site was nice and great for a tent. The view was beautiful. Our kids enjoyed pretending to perform on the stage nearby. The outhouse is kept well. The tavern downtown is open even during the winter season. The food was very good there.

Great little spot with a view! Beautiful sunset and sunrise. Kim was a friendly host who provided perfect institutions. Highly recommend! Had a wonderful 1 night stay in my rooftop tent with my son and our dog. Peaceful and quiet aside from the wind. Quick overnight retreat from Santa Fe. A+++

Amazing Views and Hosts.

Our dog loved being able to run free and not being tied up like most campgrounds. We will definitely visit again when we are in the area. Thanks for everything.

We had a great time car camping on Kim’s land! Great sunset and sunrise views as well as an incredibly starry night. Easy to get to with our crosstrek and Kim was very friendly and helpful in getting us set up. Would definitely stay again!

Horrible to find, host was MIA
Don't show up after dark...directions were unclear and markers were non existent. Couldn't get ahold of the host so just parked in a random place, slept a couple hours and left without ever even setting up...

Kim was welcoming and kind, and her place was unique and eclectic in all the right ways. So much amazing artwork, both in the cemetery and around the rest of the property. The outhouse was clean and cute, as was the campsite area. And the view from the top of the mesa is unmatched! Couple of things to mention for future campers: 1. The road up is no joke. I’d recommend a vehicle with some clearance as the minivan did scrape bottom a number of times on the way up and down. Take it very slow and you’ll make it, but be prepared for a journey. (And make sure you grab any supplies before heading up because you are likely not gonna want to drive it any more times than you need to!) 2. There was no cell service between Los Cerillos and Madrid (at least on the AT&T network) so make sure you set your map before you lose service or you’ll find yourself backtracking to the highest point to get a signal so you can map the route, like I had to do. (There was cell service once we reached the top of the mesa/campsite.) Thanks for the hospitality, Kim!
