Enjoy the majestic beauty of the Taos Valley from the verdant fields and cerros of the Dragonfly Mountain Ranch! Whether a seasoned traveler or one's first visit to Taos our goal is to exceed expectations, and we have a variety of campsites to accommodate various needs and tastes. Our motto is, “No Cramped Camping!”, with spacious and private camp sites to ensure that quiet time is just that - quiet. Pure gold for those looking to truly unplug and disconnect from everyday stresses and obligations. While here one can see history come to life by way of our living history ranch and historic home, one of the first homesteads in Des Montes owned by the same family for over 150 years. See firsthand how the unique Acequia system of New Mexico has given life to the surrounding pastoral fields and the agricultural practices of the past still relevant in today’s Taos Valley. For those wanting the best of both worlds, access to in-town activities as well as trail/hiking/river adventures, the Des Montes sites would be the best selection. Close enough to town for groceries/conveniences along with other sought after tourist attractions such as the Taos Pueblo, Taos Plaza and surrounding galleries/shops. In addition, Arroyo Seco and Arroyo Hondo are quaint little villages less than 10 minutes away for for addt'l groceries/market/restaurants options. Please see our friends at Rio Grande Balloons to book your hot air balloon ride while in Taos! https://www.riograndeballoons.com 575-208-1888. We only refer the best - so leave the rest We will provide courtesy rides to their location upon request and Sol will get your group in the air! Taos Pueblo - 15min Taos Business District - 15min Taos Plaza - 15min The Gorge Bridge - 20 min Ojo Caliente Hot Springs - 1hr John Dunn Hot Springs/Day Recreation area - 15min Taos Ski Valley - 30min Rio Grande Del Norte Nat'l Monument - 30min Carson Nat'l Forest - 10 minutes Despite accessibility to endless activities just minutes away there remains a sense of solitude, space and privacy that one would be hard pressed to find elsewhere. Taos Plateau - Two Camp Sites However, if feeling more adventurous and an Overland expedition is calling your name, the Tio Willy's locations on the Taos Plateau (Rio Grande Del Norte Nat'l Monument) would be a perfect choice. Rejuvenate the heart and soul with 300+ spacious acres to roam, hike and explore. Not to mention the breathtaking views of the entire Taos Valley from atop the cerro located on the property. With only TWO campsites at this location there are 360 degree views, solitude and privacy with no comparison. Despite the fact there is plenty of ground to cover within the property boundaries there is no shortage of additional hiking trails on Rio Grande Del Norte Nat'l Monument land which surrounds the property. Cerro Chiflo, Cerro Montoso and the Miner's Trail are within driving/hiking distance. Spend a day down on the banks of Rio Grande and unwind around the campfire and while stars light up the dark skies. Your next adventure awaits...hope to see you soon!

The Keys to the rugged frontier
Tent · Group trip ·
I highly recommend this option. The view is indescribable; the vastness of the valley and the juxtaposition of the 14r mountains all around you. The host was a gentlemen with local stories of the surrounding areas; a testament to his family owning the land for the last 100 years. Ample amounts of daily firewood and potable water. The cleanest porta potty this side of the Mississippi. This is the location you must reserve.

Don's site was just want we wanted; nice and secluded, private, plenty of space, and a great location. We would definitely stay there again in the future!

Of several dozen Hipcamps I have tried, this one stands out as among the best. Don is an incredibly gracious host, sharing his land, company, family history, and amenities. You will want for nothing. Plus, the location is excellent, and the campsites varied and comfortable. I will be back as soon as possible!

LOVED it
We could not imagine a better stay for our first time in Taos! This is a lovely piece of land, where we felt like we had total privacy, with really amazing views. We watched the sunrise over the mountains in the morning, glorious sunsets over the western plains in the evening, and spent hours looking at the Milky Way right over head. The fire pit and (VERY clean) portapotty were extra bonuses. It's near Arroyo Seco, a cute town with good food, shopping and ice cream, and a short drive to Taos. Don was an exceptionally welcoming host, and made sure that we had everything we needed, gave us a ton of information about the history of the land and area, and provided great suggestions for what to check out and how to spend our time. He even sent us over to his family home nearby to pick plums from their orchard and use the hose. Cannot recommend this hipcamp highly enough, and we cannot wait to come back on our next trip!!

Amazing spot
34 ft travel trailer ·
Truly can’t say enough about how lovely this spot is— if you’re self sufficient and don’t need anything (potable water, for instance) and love a gorgeous 360 degree view to yourself, this spot is for you! Don is awesome and gave us helpful directions for a more remote spot. Seriously check this one out!
