Thank you for checking out the Mountain City Hunters Camping Fishing site. This camping site is located just south of the border of Idaho by 16 miles and in the northern tip of Nevada. It's in an isolated location surrounded by 1000 of acres of BLM and Indian reservation land.
The beautiful property sits directly on the Owyhee River with barbwire ole fencing required to keep the cattle out. Please cross over at your own risk when fishing on the 2 acres of open property. There are tons of trout available and we found the Fall to be one of the best times to catch them. We were there a few weeks ago 9/23 and picked up seven trouts in less than hours. Fun for all.
There are tons of hunting spots in Idaho and Nevada in this area from Ducks, antelope, Deer, Elk, you call it! This site borders and just outside of the Duck Valley Reservation. We see hunters go up to Rio Tinto and across the Bridge to Nowhere, all within minutes of the Mtn city.
The town of Mtn City is referred to as a Ghost town today. It was once busting with people back in the 1930's to 1977's with copper and silver mining in and and around the surrounding area. If you drive around, you will see ruined homes and mines that have been condemned now but it's certainly fun to take a hike or 4-wheel in the area and check it all out. Privacy, quiet, peace, and wild animals roam the area. Tons of hiking and off-roading trails everywhere can be found here.
It's a quiet, peaceful area with a total of 14 very kind and helpful residents that live in town full-time. This camping area has a long 2 acres of running River along it for fishing. The water is low right now, FALL/WINTER 2023, because they are working on the dam which actually makes fishing better. Bring worms or even bacon. These fish are hungry.
There is TONS of flat land on this site to serve several RV's and 1 POLE with 110 outlet, if needed. We have wifi for your convenience but once you leave the area, there is NO WIFI anywhere for many miles.
A local small bar is located next to the property. It doesn't look like much from the outside but worth checking out. Great cold beer, whiskey, Bourbon just no wine can be found there. They also have a few slot machines and smoking is allowed inside. There is also food during the Late spring, summer, and early Fall after 5PM available for those who want a break. Rex runs this place and cooks the best. I recommend the Rex Burger.
If you need a grocery store, gas, or even a few supplies, head north to Owyhee Reservation to the "Our Grocery or Ace Hardware". It is about a 15 min drive away. The closest city is Elko, 1.5 hours away, and or Boise 2.5 hours away. There is also a local health/urgent care in the town of Owyhee (Indian reservation) in case of emergency. Again, this is a very remote, private place many folks don't know about it.
There is also several reservoirs with excellent fishing close by if you want to take a boat out there.
Check out:
Maning Reservoir
Sheep Creek Reservoir
Dry Creek Reservoir
Wild horse Reservoir
and many more.
And the River is right on site.
Please cross over the barbed wire on the property at your own risk. We are not responsible for getting yourself hooked up if that happens. There are spots you can pass through. Just be sure to leave the way it was when you leave, please.
Well, we hope you consider this ole fun retreat and one more thing. The older building on the land is an old historic jail. We are working on it and in time we hope to Air B&B to use it. Give us another year for that.
Enjoy, have fun, and be safe!Beautiful river front property on Owyhee river in Mountain City, NV. Relax by the river, hike, go rock hounding or head across and right next to the property "The bridge to Nowhere" and stroll where no one is. Privacy galore! Go trout and or salmon fishing right at your front door! It's beautiful. This has been a hidden gem. The building on the property is an ole historic jail that's been sitting since early 1930's on the Owyhee River. You have access to 1.67 acres but all you need really is the river and stars. We've opened up the property, (removed the bard wire in front and cut back some willows in front of the jail house so you can get to the river and enjoy the fishing there. It's got some of the best fly fishing right there as the bridge "To no where" is in view site and mentions online that is one of the best spots for trout and salmon fishing! Yet you got it all to yourself right next door.
This is also territory known as Duck Valley Indian Reservation so be prepared to see some of the most beautiful ducks that meander in the river. Keep your camera ready. They are just beautiful here with greens, blues and purple feathers.
It's easy to just get lost in the sounds of mother nature here just listening to the river go by and the various birds and animals speaking.
You can meander quite a ways along the river until you see a stream that runs through the property and walk cross the wooden bridge. That's all on Willow Retreats property so all okay too explore. The property ends just on the other side the wooden bridge. Here the property butts up behind the only open place in town aka as Mountain City Bar. They just demolished the standing building there and still standing a few small buildings. However, with only 10 residence in town this ole mining still remains a quite place yet a great spot for a drink if you want change of pace. You would never know it's open though but it is at 5:30PM and now the resturant for food if you want get a bite to eat too. There is even a pool table inside and nice place to go or skip it all together and pull out the propane grill if you want. We do have a table set up next to the jail house for anyone to use and right next to the hose so help yourself.
The site remains secluded and hidden away with all the willows standing tall. The site is right off of 225 which is VERY quite. If you need anything like food, gas or supplies the closes place to go is at the Owyhee Ace and or Grocery Store that is 13.8 miles away.
There is no cell service in the area in Mountain city but you will have access to Wifi at the site/ You may need to set-up the RV closer to the Jail house to keep the Wifi at it's best signal if that's important to you. There are many spots to pick on the site and you can go between the wooden post on property and park anywhere you see or pitch a tent or 3. The website says, 1 site for 1 tent, however, there is room for few. Lotta flat ground and grassy areas for you to choose and stay up close by the jail site works too. Wifi will likely be best by the Jail house if that's important though and you have a great view of the river there and really all around.
The Sunsets are amazing looking at the river towards the meadow and nights chills quickly. Be sure to bring a jacket as evening are always brisk.
Special request:
Please all we ask is you do not cut any willows or burning or pull any rocks from the banks of the river. The rocks is what keeps our banks intake. You may see some bundles of willows all tied together and we ask you leave them please. We are building up bundles as slowly, cut and bundle and throw these against the walls of the banks securing them even more.
There is now a picinic table to be enjoyed and move it where you please. All we ask is you put it back where it was, locked back up for the next person to use and stays secure.
Enjoy the space and all that is there. The hiking is amazing all around! Across the street is Harris St and you can 4wheel up or walk up the road a few miles and there is an ole mining area there, that's collapsed and an ole home that dates back early 1900's for viewing, and ole smoke house too by the ole min too. Lots to see everywhere and explore, everywhere! With public and national lands surrounding you. Head towards Elko a couple of miles and omg, just beautiful scenery and more river and ole buildings. Enjoy!
