Enjoy the comforts of home—including flush toilets, showers, and a kitchen.
TLDR: seriously remote location with a view of the stars but also a wheelchair accessible curated home. 20ish minutes from swimming holes. We've dubbed this place the Mushroom House because of the seasonal abundance the woods provide. This is a place for nature lovers to bask in the forest and all she has to offer. You can see all the stars! We're fairly close (about 20 minutes) to many swimming holes, floating outfitters, etc. There is a cafe about 5 minutes away. It's a tranquil, remote location. This is a great place for hiking, foraging, plant/fungi/animal ID'ing, forest meditations, relaxing by a fire, working on art, writing, or self-reflection. We have taken over this property to preserve the forest and all the nature within it. We plan to continually improve the site with more wildflowers, food trees, shelter for wildlife, marked hiking trails, etc. The mushroom house and the 80 acres surrounding it are a work in progress. Wheelchair accessible 700 sq ft home with a queen-size bed, a twin pull-out couch, and a queen air mattress. Decor: MO Nature with a touch of vintage charm and maximalism. The mushroom house is about 700 sq ft, fully accessible, and has everything you expect a house to, including wifi. It has a wonderful wrap-around porch on 3 sides with plenty of seating and lounging areas. There is a primitive fire pit area with access to a hose. We ask that fires not happen on very dry, windy days as we are in the middle of the woods. You can hike the 80 acres or just lounge around and watch the wildlife from the porch. Property Rules: ✨Just be respectful and have a great time! ✨Dogs must remain on a leash while outside. This is for their safety. The forest is huge and we don't want anyone getting lost. ✨No smoking or vaping indoors ✨No trespassing on others property. ✨Leave wild animals be. ✨The garden hose must always accompany your bonfire. Please wet the area down before you start your fire. NO FIRES allowed when it's SUPER DRY. We are in the forest. ✨No cutting trees, destroying plants, etc. ✨5mph on driveway for the sake of your car (and the forest creatures). ✨No animal hunting. ✨No shooting. ✨No commercial photography or filming (contact us) ✨The pole barn and RV are off limits. Other Considerations: ✨So we are in the middle of the woods with many creatures. Beyond that there are no locks on cabinets and there are tip hazards, non-baby proofed outlets, etc. There are also bodies of water with no barriers. ✨We have a security camera for the driveway and motion sensors (no video/audio) at entrances Check-In: Anytime after 3pm We can meet you up the road and guide you in OR we can give you an access code - your choice. Check-Out: Anytime before 11am. In general just pick up after yourself. Nothing fancy. Just let us know when you're headed out, Thanks. The mushroom house is about 700 sq ft, fully accessible, and has everything you expect a house to, including wifi. Mushroom House in 80 Acre Forest
Sarah’s Mushroom house is the cutest, coziest place I’ve ever stayed. It was straight out of a dream, decorated and painted so uniquely. She was so nice and friendly to boot! Her directions made it easy to navigate the rural area, snd gave us some recommendations for swimming holes. Bonus points cause we shared pictures of our cats. The land was gorgeous and relaxing. We were able to have a fire and watch the sunset. We woke up the last morning to 3 deer strolling through the back. I 10000% want to go back and have recommended to multiple of my friends already.

Mushroom House in 80 Acre Forest
Cozy cobin, but beware
We absolutely loved our stay during our time here. Host was extremely communicative, which I really appreciated since we had a couple questions during and she was always very willing to go above and beyond to help us out. One thing we loved was the amount of blankets the host had and the amount of open space in the living room. So much so that we actually wound up having a cute indoor picnic with lots of blankets and looking out at the cozy swaying of the trees outside. Super cute stuff. Checkout was super easy. At the time of writing this, the instructions were "Check-Out: In general just pick up after yourself. Nothing fancy. Just let us know when you're headed out, Thanks." We left at 9 am on a Wednesday after a quick reordering of everything back to how it was when we got there. Then, at 1 am on Friday morning I got a message from the host, "Dood. What is up with all the extra laundry?" I've attached the full exchange, but because of our blanket usage the host assumed we were hiding extra people. I can completely understand why someone would think that, but the way this suspicion was addressed was less than productive. I'm not sure if there was another guest checking in on Friday and that was causing stress, but regardless it left a sour taste in my mouth. Just feels a bit tone-deaf to be complaining to me about how "4 extra loads of laundry is 6 hours of extra work" while in the same breath saying "I do appreciate how clean you left the rest of the place."

Mushroom House in 80 Acre Forest
This property was so beautiful and makes the perfect stay for reluctant campers. My three daughters (age 5, 10, 12) had never been camping so this was the perfect introduction. You had all the amenities of home, like electricity and water, but all the beauty, wonder, and solitude of camping. There is NO TV in this cabin, which I felt really authenticated the camping experience for my children. Don't be fooled by the size... the space is used very well. Our family of five, plus our chubby chocolate lab, fit perfectly without feeling crowded. Either way, my children spent most of their time outside on the hammock - they simply couldn't get enough of it. The hosts were absolutely lovely and helpful - would recommend to anyone, especially to families of young children who want to spend some time in nature but take a bath at the end of the day.....or anyone who may be an experienced camper but has a nervous newbie camper tagging along. :) Of the three trips we took to Missouri this fall, our stay at the Mushroom House was my 12 year old's favorite.
