The Ross Barnett Reservoir was built in Central Mississippi, just above the state Capital of Jackson, in the early 1960's, by damming the Pearl River. My Father, along with many men from the area helped to build the 33,000 acre watershed. The Reservoir, or the "Rez" as it's affectionately called, is home to many species of fish, birds, and other wildlife as well as alligators and beavers.
Each year over two million people visit the Ross Barnett Reservoir for outdoor recreation: types include boating, fishing, water-skiing, and camping. There are five campgrounds, 16 parks, 22 boat launches, three handicapped-accessible trails, two multi-purpose trails, and a mountain bike trail which meanders near Mule Jane Lake
