This old homestead belonged to my belated uncle Steve, and after he passed unexpectedly, I had returned to Minnesota from California and wanted to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere for those interested in sharing a peaceful and modest property. The old barn is a work in progress to eventually become the base to accommodating more travelers and outdoor enthusiasts as finances permit. After working in the service industry bartending for 14 years and hosting 100+ global travelers via CouchSurfing out of San Diego, I am well versed in creating an inviting space, it has been a fulfilling endeavor. We look forward to meeting you and sharing/swapping stories around the campfire! Learn more about this land: Our property and profile are in constant change as we are in a stage of development, but we look to share our land with those seeking to enjoy a warm, welcome environment for those fellow wanderers, outdoor enthusiasts, vagabonds, and globetrotters. I am a well-traveled backpacker myself and share 5 1/2 acres with my father here in a bustling little touristy town. We enjoy the company of those who endorse small footprint, sustainable practices and like to establish meaningful connections.  All we ask is that you respect the property, our neighbors, and make an effort to add one more new friend before you depart.

Tumbleweed Base Camp
Great place to camp with friends!
We loved the big open area we camped in with friends! Lots of room for our kids to run around and explore! They also really loved the barn and getting to play ping pong! David was so nice and accommodating. We really appreciated him moving a trailer from the parking area to our campsite and the sporting equipment he set out for the kids. It was such a sweet, nicely taken care of spot to celebrate the end of summer and to go troll hunting! Thanks again David!

Great Family Camping
We loved staying at Tumbleweed Base Camp! This was our first time camping as a family with our 5yo twins and 8yo. We camped with some friends as well and it was great to have the whole lower area to ourselves where the kids could run and play and we all had a great time. We loved that the porta-potties were clean, near the camping sites, were stocked with hand sanitizer, and plenty of toilet paper. They even had lights in them! We thought we'd be fine without using the fridge but after several hours realized we'd benefit from using it so our food didn't go bad. It was so great to have the shared fridge and freezer in the barn, as well as a place to hang out and get out of the sun for a while. We brought an inflatable queen mattress and it was so great we were able to hook it up near the campfire and blow it up. There was also a water hose there which was great for refilling water bottles and ensuring the campfire was out at night. Overall, we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Thank you so much!!

Tumbleweed Base Camp
Family troll hunting adventure
Great family friendly spot right across from Detroit mountain (where there are 2 of the Project 412 sculptures/ trolls). Our tent was in a quiet place with great access to clean and not stinky bathrooms. The barn was also very nice to have communal indoor area with games and a refrigerator/ freezer. Definitely a plus to have access to a fridge in the summer heat! Logan and David were very helpful and Kind. Will definitely be back next year!
