The "modern" story begins in 1780 with John and Abigail Clemons building their log cabin homestead and clearing the land between the ponds. They experienced their share of challenges, tragedy and even indian companionship, but that's enough for now. We'll be happy to share more, but the story of area founders John and Abigail is best told or read while sitting in the comforting glow and warmth of an evening fire...

The Ridge at Clemons Pond Farm
Overall we had a fun time camping here. Andrew was attentive and obviously cared a lot about being a good host and sharing the beauty of his property with visitors. That said, we had a tough time getting a sense of what the actual camp site was like despite the volume of information posted and a pre-confirmation phone call with Andrew. The description of the access is accurate; the road in is rocky and you need decent clearance (we were in a Rav4 and clipped a few rocks). There is a clearing designated for parking, and the hike up from there is in two parts. The first is mostly grassy, a little uneven, and although it isn't as steep as the second part, it's definitely a good incline. After walking it the first time, we decided to bring the car up, which looks intimidating but it was fine. The second part is a hard hike. Not only is it steep, but the trail is loose rocks and dirt. We made the hike up several times with gear and for other excursions; we're both fit and in our mid-30's and we had to be quite careful. It definitely got our hearts going! If you have a lot of gear and/or aren't very sure of yourself, this site might not be the best choice. The site itself was nice. The ground has some vegetation but is pretty rocky and very uneven, but our host had recently raked and prepared a dirt tent pad under an overhanging tree branch. Not sure how well this dirt pad would have held up in a heavy rain. Thankfully we didn't experience one, but it was drizzling steadily on the morning we left and held up ok. Great rock ring for campfires, and a really beautiful western view, as advertised. We took advantage of the pond access, which was, again, somehow hard to know what to expect from the pre-departure information. It's a 5 minute drive away, then an easy walk down from the road to a small clearing, where there's a little platform. The lake is calm and there are residents around but it's still very quiet. Bring a hammock and floaties!

Campsite with a view
My husband and I camped for two nights in August with our two boys, 5 and 3 years old. Having a 4WD vehicle (our pickup also has a lift) was key as the logging road access to the site is quite a bumpy ride! It was the first camping experience for the boys--they loved it. We picked wild blackberries growing on the side of the trail, roasted marshmallows on the fire, enjoyed the view and at night, felt like we were the only ones for miles. The campsite itself is bumpy, so we were happy that we brought an inflatable mat to sleep on. We didn't realize that most of the other parts of the property (the lake access, blueberry fields) were about 3 miles away...unfortunately a little too far for the boys. So, we ended up driving around much more than we expected.

The Ridge at Clemons Pond Farm
Andrew was great! We had a phone call to make sure this site was right for us. It was a bit of a hike, but the views were fantastic! Andrew was very helpful and reachable via text or phone throughout the trip. The land is beautiful and we look forward to exploring more of it! We came with dogs and it was perfect for them, the areas were well defined so they could roam without getting too far.
