Great experience at the Surry!
The Surry Art and Event space has been an incredible surprise. Me and my partner were moto-traveling to Canada and needed a camping spot to spend the night. Alan is an impeccable host, with a brilliant mind. He created the Surry space and keeps it active with events and constant improvements. The Surry is an art center, with stays sapiently crafted, the architectures are simple yet brilliant in the details, every object tells a story. The Surry is not intended as a camping, it offers two camping spots (and I find this very open minded, offering a safe spot for travelers) and shares a community kitchen (!) and an outdoor covered shower with hot water. There is also a beautiful bathroom, I loved the decorations from the past concerts and the attention to every detail in this room. The Surry is about community and it’s an experience for those who love to travel and create new connection, discover new precious story along the way. Worth to mention that the key in this place is communication and community so if you need anything I believe Alan will be open to help you with your needs as he did with us. No fires in the property but if you are a real camping person you shouldn’t be scared (never camped in Cali?). We did our grocery before getting there and there is a delicious lobster shack twitch the water view at only 4 mins from the property. Finally, the location is perfect for those who want to visit Acadia National Park. Will come back for sure!

Rude Host but Great Night Sky
We had an uncomfortable stay due to the interaction with the host. We were coming from out of town and provided updates leading up to our arrival time late in the evening. The host's booking page listed arriving anytime after 2pm--there was nothing that specified a certain time that we needed to check-in by. When we arrived, the host was angry. He said he typically would have been in bed by that point, but he stayed awake to ensure we knew where to set up our tent and where to find the restrooms. He was rude to us and felt compelled to give us lessons in "courtesy." When we suggested that he could simply post signage and that would help to navigate his property, the host dismissed it saying guests would only get confused. In all of our Hipcamp stays, he was the first host that had felt the need to wake up and roll out of bed to be a human arrow on the property. We never expected for him to do the thing that he was so upset with us that he did. We were eager to leave as soon as we could in the morning so we would not have to interact with the host again. One silver lining about the stay was the night sky. There were lots of stars; so many, in fact, that our children audibly "awed" at the sight of them.

Didn’t end up staying here. Pulled in and the area was uneven. The host was pretty overwhelmed with arrivals (two people) and kept saying how busy he was. Then I was told I’d have to move to the back of the setup area which is basically on a slope cause they had a concert that night and he needed the area for parking. No bueno. Booked another hip camp up the road and that place was awesome.

Stop sleep go, not good camping.
Not great for camping. No spot just park on grass and set up tent. No picnic table. Had to use one connected to a cottage he is renting to someone. Allan was pleasant and friendly and showed me around. Outdoor shower not hot. No ring for fire. One in property but not invited to use. Experience did not match what guest paid.
