Off-lead friendly
Pets can be off-lead at this Hipcamp.
David purchased the property from his parents and built the log cabin, sauna and privy with good friends who also constructed the Rope Bridge. Linda came along in 2000 and moved in with her dog. David was just finishing up a bedroom addition to the cabin, just in time! We got married on the property in 2002. Our family gathers together a lot throughout the summers and we have a ski commute to our vehicles during the winter. We love to share our cabin with those of like mind. It's truly a sweet spot! Learn more about this land: Our cabin in the woods offers you a sweet getaway. Think of it as Luxury Camping. No running water but fresh water is provided. Privy on premises. Gas stove. Wood stove. No refrigeration (coolers & ice works!). Grill. Fire pit. Basic kitchen items. Wood-fired sauna. Totally off grid. Located on the river. The cabin is suited for short term stays, though someone with a good comfort level of being in nature and off grid could enjoy a longer stay. What to expect
Cabin
You'll have this Hipcamp all to yourself.
4 guests max
Campfires allowed
Firewood provided, firepit, wood burning fireplace, private. The fire pit needs to be tended to at all times when it is lit. If starting and tending a fire is not a skill for you, we will gladly teach you. There's also a wood stove in the cabin. If you are unfamiliar with woodstoves, let us know. And there's a small gas grill!
Toilet available
Portable toilet, composting toilet. We have 2 options: One is portable toilet located in the bedroom which is great for nighttime use or when you just can't make it to the privy in time. If it needs to be emptied, just set it on the porch and text us and we'll empty if for you. The second option is the Privy - It's actually a bucket system. We use ash from the ash bucket after each usage and this keeps odor way, way down. Then it all gets composted. The toilet paper is in the coffee can for safe keeping!
Pets allowed
Off leash. We really need to chat beforehand regarding pets. We would like to have a conversation to make sure it's a good fit. Usually it's not a big deal, but please let us know.
Potable water available
We start you out with a 10 gallon water container (from our home well) and replenish as needed! Feel free to bring bottled water, but most guests find the 10 gallons works well, especially for a weekend.
Bins available
Trash bin. Certainly, for bigger groups or longer stays, we can supply all the other types of bins.
Cooking equipment present
Grill over firepit, bbq, private, oven, cookware, cooking utensils, dishware, cutlery. There's an apartment size gas stove/oven in the cabin. All the basic kitchen needs are there. You can use paper products too if you don't want to wash dishes. The Dishwashing Method: heat water on the stove to use for washing and rinsing, use the plastic tub and rack. If you have any questions, text us and we'll show you how.
Picnic table present
No showers
Bathe in river or stream. We have Dr. Bronner's soap which is ok to use in the river. Many guests love to try out a river bath. Also, a sun shower bag can be used as well. It can be found in the closet in the bedroom. We have a simple set up. You can also choose to heat your water and mix it for a bag shower. There's a hook/pulley near the fire pit where you can hang it.
No wifi
It's not directly available in or around the cabin, but it can be accessed in our driveway or our home.

4WD recommended
It really just depends on the weather. The road is an old farm road and we don't like it to get too ruddy. All vehicles would be fine as long as they were driven slowly. There are sections that can get muddy. In these areas, you can see where we and others have driven around the muddy area so as not to get stuck or ruin the road.

An incredible place!!
Group trip
An incredible place, such a hidden gem. Stayed for two nights halfway through our tour of Maine with my husband, kids (13 & 11 yrs) and one puppy . Linda and David were just so lovely, so welcoming and thoughtful. The cabin is absolutely one of a kind, clean, cosy and extremely comfortable. It felt so good to be away from every day life especially for our children - to show them there’s so much more to the world than phones and computers. They absolutely loved the River, lazing in the hammock, watching the hummingbirds outside the cabin window, playing cards by oil lamp light, building fires and of course experiencing the privy! The sauna was a really special treat. I thoroughly recommend a stay here!

Peaceful, relaxing, lots to do!
Cute cabin, sauna, and a beautiful view! We spent our day swimming in the river listening to nature, we went back up to dry off and sit by the fire! Our dog loved it and so did we. Linda is very welcoming and friendly and very helpful showing us the way around the camp! Highly recommend!
