Named one of the best Hipcamps to visit in 2024.
A beautiful island campground thickly forested with spruce, fir, and birch, Four Acre Woods was created over 60 years ago on Sunshine Island, Maine. Under the name Sunshine Campground, it hosted people from all over the world and delivered the spirit and essence of this ancient, abundant land that so many ancestors had roamed and celebrated before. It was open to the public through to the 90s, but then sat alone for 15 years, waiting for someone to revive it and bring it back to the world. Then one day, Caleb and Wolf met on a bus, heading south from Down East Maine, where they instantly connected and joined forces. They worked together redressing a home in Stonington for visitors to experience and became brothers while doing so. Eventually, the presence and opportunity of the campground caught their attention and after working out the technicalities, they worked together to bring this beautiful land and campground back to the people under its new life and name, Four Acre Woods. After opening on July 1st 2020, the land is finally back to sharing all of her beauty and spirit with the people. So, Welcome Home. Sincerely, - Four Acre Woods Caretakers

Blue Jay Way (20amp Hookup)
This is a small, quiet campground with a lot of amenities, including a community cabin that offers coffee, tea and games.

Owl Nest (20amp Hookup)
Worth the trip
We had reserved Owls Nest. It was a great site, but we decided Blue Jay Way was better for us. We have a small van and it is not easy to level, Blue Jay Way was better for us. We stayed there for two nights then moved to the Bears Den site. Which was also a very nice level site. This campground is great in so many ways, I highly recommend it. We have camped in many places and this is one of the best. The sauna is worth the extra cost and the community room is very cozy and not in a hokey way. The sites are close together but the thick forest provides a nice amount of privacy. Firewood is plentiful and based on an honor system of donations. Water and power at the site and a very functional bathhouse. The coastal access is a short bike ride or walk down the road. This section of Maine coast is absolutely stunning. We spent a day picking shells, soaking in the sun and swimming - though it is very cold water! I write all of these nice things to promote and acknowledge the excellent work of the Four Acres Staff - kuddos. Go there for quiet and beauty. If you need to be entertained by anything other than nature itself, go somewhere else.

Fox Den (20amp Hookup)
People were nice and the space was clean. Sites are very close together and small and based on the photos I anticipated being closer to the water without having to drive but overall was a good place to lay my head at night and do a load of laundry.
