The Light Center is a 95 acre natural sanctuary nestled in a wooded creek valley amidst the farm land of Kansas. • We have a refinished community barn with two private rooms and a community kitchen, a 30ft Pacific Yurt and lots of great places to camp. • If you're just driving through or want an 'easy' camping experience with wifi, pitch your tent in the spacious yard around the barn. • We have lots of places to hike to and several wonderful remote camping spots. Choose from hiking out to camp near the large creek that winds through our land, gathering with friends in a meadow or tucking into a spot in the woods with a beautiful view of the Kansas plains. • Out here, on a clear night, you can see all of the stars. We are an organic, sustainable farm providing natural sacred spaces for hiking and camping. We welcome peaceful camping for people with reverence for the land and all beings. We have goats, free-range chickens, guinea hens, dogs and cats. For the safety of our livestock and other guests, we do require visitors to keep their dogs on a leash at all times. The Light Center is a retreat center serving as a beacon, lighting the way into a vibrant future. We are creating new paths with open hearts. We offer events, celebrations and ceremonies about harmonizing with the earth and inspiring personal, local and global connections. We provide a safe space to nurture and inspire spiritual growth and empower youth.

The Redtail Yurt

The Light Center offers camping in a 30 ft. diameter Pacific Yurt which is off grid and in the woods. It is essentially a camping experience, with everything that goes along with that (e.g., no power or running water). In cold weather, we provide propane heaters that will warm the cold evenings and nights. This beautiful structure has a raised platform floor with a deck off the front. There are windows, door and a dome skylight. A bed with sheets, blankets and comforter is provided. A second and third bed/futon are available as well.  We kindly ask that all “Yurt-ers” bring their own camping supplies. Fresh, clean water is available at trail head so bringing container(s) for water or bring your own water.  Please only start fires in designated fire pits. During burn bans or drought periods all fires are prohibited. All fires must be COMPLETELY extinguished upon leaving the site.  Insect spray is advised during tick and chigger season. There is extra bug spray in the entrance bench of the community barn.

The Sunlight Room is a private room with two comfortable twin beds. It is one of two private rooms in our community center / refurbished horse barn. Your private room opens to a lovely, shared space you are welcome to use. You will see a large, fully stocked, farm-style kitchen, a table to eat at, a longer table to work at (or eat at) and a bathroom and shower (a second bathroom / shower is on the top floor). Our WIFI password is on the refrigerator and there is a purified water spigot (reverse osmosis) at the kitchen sink. The contact number for Susan, your host (who lives onsite) is on the refrigerator too. We occasionally have day-long workshops in the upper level of the barn - if so, Susan will let you know in advance. Take advantage of our lovely hiking trails while you're here, and enjoy the goats and chickens, too. Pets are welcome but they must be kept on a leash.

Cold Camping at The Light Center

My brother and I went camping at the amazing Light Center and the weather turned on us, we were struggling in the cold but Susan was extremely friendly and accommodating, offering us any site out of the wind and access to the community barn and fire starter, even a chance to reschedule at no cost. The vibe at the light center is amazing with every amenity from plumbing, to firewood, to running hot water, and even a wheelbarrow to pack in and out of camp. We're excited to come back during warmer weather, rent the yurt, and check out the extensive trails. I recommend the Light Center to anyone looking for quick accessible getaway or for an extended, private camp experience.

I had a lovely stay at The Light Center. The barn was nice and inviting. There were plenty of books to read and a relaxing massage chair. I would have liked to explore the trails while I was there, but it was freezing and I did not pack accordingly. 😅 Susan's was a lovely host and I would recommend anyone to stay.

Susan was lovely, she came out to meet us and showed us different remote sites. Due to our tent size (6 person) we chose the first one. All the sites were nice and remote. 2 sites by the stream are on the smaller size so take account. You can see the stars clearly at night! Had a nice small fire going The chickens run from you 😂 and the goats like ear and butt scratches.

The yurt is set back on a trail that is peaceful, beautiful and quiet, but very near the barn. The barn is a lovely well kept community space with a cozy finished kitchen two bathrooms, large dining space a library. I wish we could've stayed longer to explore the light center. It is a wonderful place with great energy.

This place is my go to get away. Susan is one of a kind and helped us with everything we needed including fire wood, a wheelbarrow, and a lighter to get the fire going. Alongside the beautiful land there are animals and amazing hiking trails. This place is one of a kind and would recommend to anyone.

We had such a great time at the Redtail yurt and already can’t wait to visit again! Susan was extremely accommodating and had such a beautiful property. Highly recommend! (Probably a smart idea to bring lanterns since the yurt doesn’t have electricity, other than that 10/01)

The Redtail Yurt
Staying in the Redtail Yurt was so serene and peaceful. It felt private but was a short walk to the community amenities. There were lovely trails into woods and meadows around the property, and we loved seeing the free range chickens and goats wandering around. The yurt was cozy and had comfy beds with clean bedding. We will definitely be back!

What a beautiful and amazing place! I stopped by on a roadtrip and was greeted by some really cute goats! Then went into the barn house and met two really nice people staying there as well! Susan was nice enough to come greet me and showed me some of the land. I also got such a good night of sleep hearing calming nature sounds! Would recommend! Thanks so much!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the moonlit room at the light center. The energy of this space was incredible. The room was super cozy and comfortable. And the fire pit and star gazing made for an exceptional evening. Hope to return soon and explore more of the trails.

The Light Center was beautiful and welcoming! My friend and I had a delightful and meaningful time meditating, soaking in nature, and sitting around the fire pit talking while our girls played. The butterflies were amazing, and the fireflies were like nature's rave. We saw a little armadillo buddy too. The Yurt amenities were well thought out. I took a battery pack for my CPAP. We'll be back!!

Had a great weekend at Red Tail Yurt. The setting is super peaceful and remote, just what I was hoping for. The yurt itself is huge (photos don’t do it justice), with tons of room for a family or group. It has a cozy, glamping vibe — nicer than tent camping but still very connected to nature. The barn with the kitchen and bathroom is a quick walk away. There’s a composting toilet in the yurt, but I just used the barn. The host was friendly and very responsive. If you’re going in summer, bring a fan and some batteries. Also plan ahead for cooking — either over the fire or in the barn kitchen. Would definitely stay again.
