The Shawnee National Forest surrounds us, accessible only by wandering roads, passing over creeks and alongside wineries. The trip is worth the beautiful drive, eventually arriving at "The Villa". Our home looks like an Italian villa, appropriately placed between two wineries in the middle of the Shawnee Forest. It is actually a straw-bale home with supplemental solar energy. Originally built as a Holistic Healing Center, we have converted it into a comfortable home with great vibes. We have converted an old grain bin into a "GrainZebo" just outside our home as a fun place to hang out with friends and family. We hope you enjoy the same relaxed feel we get while living out here in the woods, when you come visit. We will be happy to help you feel at home out here. We love sharing the Shawnee experience.

Wine Trail Wilderness - Elec. 30amp
Loved it!
A big thank you to Jon for being an outstanding host at WTW. We greatly appreciated the extra touches, like delicious 5 gal’s of ice water, seasoned firewood with a firepit & tools, trash receptacles, ice, picnic table, & a cleared area for our RV & campsite. Never thought I’d be singing praises about an outhouse, but WTW makes the experience unique & fun. Everything was ready & waiting for our arrival. We went to Alto winery & heard some good music. Jon checked on us each morning to make sure we had everything we needed. We enjoyed his visits & sharing of the local history. Highly recommend putting this on your places to camp.

Labor Day With Friends of 28 years
WTW was the best Hipcamp site we've ever stayed at hands down! Jon & Carla think of everything you could possibly need and more. Highly recommend the grainzebo & Bocce court site if you can get it. There were lots of outlets, lights, table & chairs, picnic table, great fire pit, & lounge chairs. The daily fresh ice water was way above expectations- and, you're right Jon, some of the best water we've ever had. Outhouse was so well done you forgot there wasn't running water to it. Jon cheerfully recommended wineries as well as borrowed us a mousetrap to evict an unwanted camper guest. We loved our stay and will be sharing Jon's Hipcamp site with friends.

Second time staying at wine trail. As great as ever. Job made a can jam game and we enjoyed playing! He added spots but we didn’t feel like we were too close. Thanks

Wine Trail Wilderness
Perfect camp experience-Great hosts
I thoroughly enjoyed my tent camping experience at Wine Trail Wilderness. The site was spacious and prepared with fresh ice water, waste bins and a locker stocked with firewood for the fire pit. The grounds were beautifully maintained and fun to explore. Jon is a terrific host and has done a fantastic job in creating the many amenities including manicured grounds, large gathering gazebo with BBQ, bocce ball court and decorated privy. Must see Shawnee Forest adventures included Little Grand Canyon and Giant City State Park. If you plan to camp in the Shawnee National Forest, this is the place!

The property was amazing! Jon greeted us upon arrival and showed us to our campsite. He had already stocked it with fresh dry fire wood and the 5 gallons of the best ice water you’ll ever have. We booked the day of on a road trip and Jon was quick to reply and provide the space we needed. Thank you for sharing your amazing property with us! We will be back when we are in IL.
