Katie is a Star Host
Star Hosts are highly rated, responsive, and committed to providing incredible experiences.
This 25 acre parcel was once owned by a sand mining company. There are mounds and valleys all along the Illinois River. We purchased the property in 1987, and cut in the road. The city of Ottawa recently annexed the property into the Ottawa city limits. It's like owning our own wild park.
Campers will find a tranquil and secluded experience at Katie's campsite, complete with a beautiful natural setting. Visitors appreciate the private nature of the site, where wildlife sightings are common and the proximity to the river offers serene views. While the train noise is noted, it doesn't seem to detract significantly from the overall peacefulness. Katie is frequently highlighted as a friendly and accommodating host, ensuring guests feel welcome and informed about the property.
The creek was gorgeous and I want to come back in the summer and maybe take a dip in the watering hole! The spot was nice and private. We were lucky that there wasn’t anyone in the Airbnb on the land so we had the space more to ourselves. There is a train yard right next to the camping spot that is quite loud when a train goes by. I’m a really good sleeper so I didn’t mind it that much but if you are sensitive to noise when you sleep that might be hard to deal with. Other than that I had a great time and Katie is great and I hope to come back!
Plenty of private land to set up camp and Katie is super friendly. Short drive to starved rock and matthiesen parks. I would suggest walking the entrance road to scout it prior to committing to driving down it. We got stuck and required off road recovery tow $$$. Other than that we loved this area
This is an amazing spot. Plenty of open room and trails. Lots of wildlife and river front access. You can see so many stars at night. Firepits at every site and plenty of wood to gather and burn.
