Our property has a robust migratory bird population. We see Blue Heron, geese, ducks, song birds, birds of prey, including the occasional Bald Eagle visit our property. We have a small wetland area and pond, which attract a lot of wildlife, such as muskrat, deer, fox, frogs, turtles, and other small woodland animals. We have wooded areas as well as meadows, which are perfect for tent camping, and are a short walk from the parking area. Our property makes a great base camp for exploring local areas of interest. Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site is just a few miles south of Charleston. Lake Charleston is just a few miles away, and boasts several nesting pairs of Bald Eagles. There are also fishing, hiking and bike trails around Lake Charleston. We are very close to Illinois' largest Amish Community in the Arcola/Arthur area, with many Amish shops, bakeries, quilt shops, and more. Aikman's Wildlife Adventures is in nearby Chesterville. There is a very nice bike path just to the west of our property. This bike path takes you through Charleston, past the Coles County Fairgrounds, and into Mattoon.

Site 1 is perfect for large campers or motorhomes. It is a fully rocked lot that requires very little leveling. You will have a beautiful view of the sunrise and the large grassy area to the east of the barns. Besides seeing the sun rise above the trees to the east, we often see deer crossing the country road in front of the property, and walking across our meadow toward the pond. In the spring and summer there is usually a parade of geese and goslings walking down the road between our pond and our neighbor's pond. We don't currently have any amenities to hook up to, but this site is safe to run a generator. A tent can be set up in the grass lot for additional sleeping quarters. A picnic table and fire ring is provided.

This tent camp area is situated between the red barn and the pond. There is a large mowed area around a firepit, and you can situate your tent or tents to get a great view of the pond or the meadow and wetland area, where we often see deer. It is open, and pretty dark back here at night, making it great for star gazing at night, or bird/wildlife watching during the day. Redwinged Blackbirds love to land out in the wetland area of the pond, where there is an abundance of bullfrogs. We have a large shared firepit at this site, and also offer a small gas grill for a modest rental fee.

RV Site 1 - Sunrise View

We took our small RV down these country roads to camp. The trees and pond sheltered from the road by farm buildings was so peaceful. Bullfrogs, raccoons, deer, and barn swallows greeted us as we sat around the fire pit. It may be tight for a larger RV and you’ll put your levelers to task. But we’ll definitely be back. Town with Walmart and fast food is close by. Lake Charleston is 10 mins away.

It was a quiet space next to the barn for a quick stop over on my way home. My dog and I enjoyed taking walks to the pond and down the street.

Would definitely recommend this quiet and simple location. Just far enough away from it all to provide you what you need. An evening of nature, beautiful sunset/sunrise over the farm fields, beautiful pond, trails to walk around and of course a good spot to enjoy a fire. Shanan met us upon arrival and ensured we knew where everything was and that we were set. All in all a great experience. Thank you guys!

This was a very convenient spot o camp at and it was quiet. The owner - Shanan was very responsive to all my questions and gave wonderful directions. I plan on coming back soon.
