Yip Camp provides a setting that promotes immersion in nature. The property is located on the Kilauea Volcano at about 2700 feet in elevation and in sight of the majestic Mauna Loa volcano rising at the peak at 13,680 feet. Both volcanos have been active recently. There are several trails at the National Park nearby; trails and several species of birds live on the property including Japanese Pheasants. On clear nights the skies provide excellent ambient viewing of the moon, planets and constellations. The campsites and cottage are located in the woods near a shower and flushing toilet and the property is off grid with the goal to establish an example of sustainable lifestyles and ecosystems. Camping equipment is available upon request and the cottage is furnished with a basic kitchen. The grounds also include a screen room with a grill, tables, chairs and a fire pit. Local fruits and vegetables are grown on the property and the greenhouse provides food. Solitude is available for those who seek silence and immersion in nature and a number of state and county beaches are within a forty minute drive. The focus is providing a quiet environment and an opportunity for solitude away from the distractions of urban lifestyles.

8 by 8 tent two cots, amenities
5/5 stars
We had such a great time camping here! 1. The location was perfect, being about 20 mins outside the volcano national park and about an hour from Pahoa and different black sand beaches 2. The property was gorgeous and homey. Thomas has his own “tiny house” plus an additional small cottage (which we did not stay in) and then the camping tent with two cots and blankets. It was very easy to find and roads weren’t an issue. In the tent there was also a jug of water with a mug and paper plates, etc. Outside the tent is the outhouse which was perfectly fine for glamping. 3. Thomas was great. Woke up to him offering us coffee and showing us around his property. His pup was cute as can be as well. He also had great recommendations for food, hikes, beaches, etc It made our camping Hawai’i weekend getaway amazing!

Yip Camp Cottage
Rained out
Thomas was very nice and the place was beautiful. We would have enjoyed staying in his little cottage but it was dumping buckets of rain when we got there with no end in sight. Thomas also let us know that alot of the park roads were closed so we decided to go on to Pahoa where our friend has a house for us to stay in. Next time we are on the island we will definitely try to stay there again. Just make sure you buy the rain insurance!

I stayed at rv site 2 and would stay again. Excellent secluded spot, Tom is great. Nothing beats a hot shower in the AM after traveling.
